A quick chip on the Seat/Golf 150 can see nearly 200bhp and a hell of a lot of torque

How much do you want to spend?

Wife has a passat 130 - goes really well, AFAIK that's the same engine in the golf, so that might get my vote.

I have driven a couple of the mondeos, and they seem to have loads of lag compared to the VW, so perhaps avoid them.

Got a o4 Leon Cupra TDi, good all round package with reasonable performance. Get the REVO remap like mine and you be suprised what other motors you can see off! Around 200Bhp and 50+ mpg no matter how hard you drive it!

You want the latest FR+ with Cupra R body styling. Oh there not too bad round the track either!

I bought a Golf 150 PD a couple of months ago , had it custom mapped at Jabbasport and it's 221bhp and 335Lb ft torque it goes like stink , and with 19" wheels it looks quite good as well

The Seats are nice also , the cars not what I sit on if you know what I mean

Most are badged up as GTi's , they should be advertised as a 150 though , not as many of these about , they have plastic wood trim , most have 3 headreasts in the back (but mines got 2 ??) and a front mounted intercooler and lowered suspension , apart from this they are the same as a 130

Rory,

The GT TDi is availble with loads of different power outputs, right up to GTTDi180.

10k will buy you a very nice GT TDI (that's what I nearly bought).

Get it chipped by Rob, and they make for a hugely fast car! It'd be quicker point to point that your S2 by a mile!

I havent seen a 180 yet ? The new shape ones are 160's , in my shape of golf the most they do is a 150 , saying that when mine went on the rollers it was 168bhp as standard , I paid Ł8800 for mine about 2 months ago , it does put a quite a few cars to shame , not bad for an oil burner

i prefer the look of the seat leon, but the fr's are too expensive

golfs are nice but they are also expensive and they all seem to have loads of miles on them

no way i'm paying 10k for a 4 or 5 year old car with 60k on it

whay didnt you buy the gt tdi in the end

wood trim sounds lovely

the wood trim goes with my tartan slippers and its the same grain as my pipe

Dont let mileage put you off , they go for 250K plus with no problems , I wanted the 150 as they can be tuned more cause of the intercooler , mines a 02 plate , 60k miles they are out there cheaper , esspecially if you dont mind a 4 door , but I wanted a 2 door silver , all down to choice

Rory -purely because I didn't want to spend 8k (what I had at the time) on a high mileage older car.

I'd have no hesitation in buying one. In fact, my mum will probably be buying obe fairly soon.

Ian - I have seen a few 180s, and I believe the "Anniversary" edition was one as well.

Did you know that with the increased price of Diesel compared to Unleaded it can work out cheaper to buy a decent petrol engine. 45 mpg sounds great but if you paying 5-8p more per litre.

Its not as much as you think

I've got a 206 hdi, been re mapped, and on rollars got 130bhp, 225ft/lb tourqe, at santa pod got a 16.9 in the wet

they dont look to bad either

TBH, i'd go for the golf or Leon, but then the 206's cost 1/2 of what they do

For a decent 2.0 hdi (like mine) you'll be starting at 3-4k for a 99 higher miles model, about 6.5k for a 02 plate like mine, and then upwards on that the newer u get

They also brought out a hdi gti in 04, exactly the same car as a hdi, but with a 110bhp 1.6 16v all alloy derv engine

6speed box and a good size boot A/C sports interior, i put the RS4 wheels apart from that mate i would recommend these cars to any one 102 k and it still pulls like a train

i beg to differ , the amount of bad running faults on cars ive had all down to these serial port flash or plug in units you wouldnt believe m8
