I bought my first place when i was 20 3 and a half years ago, just a one bed flat on the outskirts of Edinburgh, cost me 43k, just sold it last week for 82k , the only thing is me an the burd are buying a 3 bed semi with garage and gardens and its costing 150k, if i hadn't bought the flat we would only be able to get a 2 bed terrace so it is well worth getting on the ladder asap even if it's all you can afford you always manage and as i always say whats dear today is cheap tomorrow.

i live in winscombe north somerset bought a 1 bed flat (but very big) with parking and outside space, paid 85k 16 months ago and it was a damp run down shed!!! spent 8.5k on it and just been valued at 125k, it is difficult i saved hard for 2 years and go in touch with a mortgage chap that would get round the earnings if you get what i mean, there is no other way to do , it was really hard but has all been worth it in the end, my mortgage started off at £440 per month but with the interest rate soon went up to 499, i have now re0mortaged to pay off the renovation costs so have 94k mortgage and it costs me £599 per month, hope this helps,, england is an island so any piece of land is expensive, especially in London might be a batter option to buy in another area or share buy with firends etc just to get you on the ladder,

I bought my first house in 1999 for £60k.

My only regret is that I didnt buy 2!!!

Feel real sympathy for any poor sod trying to buy now. I know I couldnt do it anymore.
It doesnt help me one little bit that my house is now worth £120k - unless I sell up and live in a caravan in a layby!
