The only possible good thing that might happen is the WRC might stage a rally in the stadium after the games like they did in Greece the other week, Far more intresting that watching people run round in circles and throwing spears down a field!!!

Yeh it should create lots of work and make a lot of money if they can organise it right.
Just carnt see it going as smoothly as other countries have managed.
Also think having it in the middle of London aint a good idea either, look at the traffic and parking problems Wembley have.
What do I know though

A load more traffic in london, and probably a huge cost to the uk taxpayer.
and all the contracts will be awarded to foriegn firms no doubt anyway.
so im not sure how its a great thing for britain unless you are into sport in a big way, but at least we beat the french, so thats worth it

My way of looking at it though is that this country has been moaning for years about kids being lazy, fat etc etc
The Olympics might have an effect for the two weeks its on but thats it. Kids would rather play playstation than go for a run etc
Its a shame the government are now spending the money to do up East London rather than just doing it anyway.
Theres no doubt that it will be good for the country but for your average Joe living in london it will have no or even a megative effect

It's going to cost the UK taxpayer a HUGE amount, so that London can be upgraded to the level it needs to host such a large scale event, and whose pockets is that going to come out of? Granted, the Olympics being hosted here will generate a massive financial benefit for the country, but what are the chances of the government turning round and saying "Here you go, a big tax rebate, we've got lots of money back from hosting the Olympics so you, the British taxpayer, can have some of it back as a reward for supporting such a large event"?
Yes, it's a negative opinion, but it's my opinion!

Its a great move for the UK,
We have 7 years to get our transportation system and traffic problems under controll.
In the past the government have been doing the odd small bits here and there. Now the deadline has been set there is no excuse. If it all goes wrong the world will be watching.
I think it wil have lasting benifits after the event as well.
Not a waste of money, the amount the UK have spent on the bid is pennies in the bigger picture that will easily get re-ouped and some by the olympic games.

.
The only way to cure traffic problems in this country is to make road tax Ł1000 a year for cars and put enough busses on the road so there is one ever 5 mins on every route and make them cost 50p for any journey.
Road problems solved then.

To be honest, I'm with Lee on this one, but maybe it's because we both just LOVE watching any kind of sporting event.
I'll be at as much of it as possible when it rolls round, and loving every minute of it.
If it encourages little kids to put down the playstation controller, and get up and have some extra-curricular interests, then it's worth the trade off in congestion a million times over.

Since its going to be Londoners that will be getting the benefit of the facilities I hope they will be footing the majority of the bill.
If there had been a national referendum I am pretty sure the no vote would have been overwhelming.

Seems like nobody has got any national pride either! Gezze lets hold big events etc. After all the money that will be spent in peanuts in the overall budget and would only be wasted on other things anyway!
