I think the owner could possibly have parked it up, gone off to do something, been in an accident or took ill and died and nobody was aware that he owned the car, or where it was.

Could have been single, with elderly or no parents, family that didn't really know what the car was worth so took no notice of it and didn't notice it wasn't about!

May have lived in a flat and so tax reminders and the dvla letter would have been ignored

If the owner was arrested and sent down, he would have had a crowny collect it for him.

Maybe, it was involved in a Gang murder.

Maybe, the driver was stopped at lights, trailed out of the car, shot in the face, then buried down a ditch

What is the owner thinking. It would be good to hear the previouse owners story or where they are now and why it got left.

lol to all the folks who think its stealing

i went through all the correct procedures to get this dvla, police etc so i did absoulutely nothing wrong. c'mon its not like the car was a month or 2 out of tax this was 2 1/2 YEARS OUT OF DATE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

the moment i saw that i thought right im gonna do something about this because i could guarante someone else would.

me and my mates still to this day cant think why or explain why it was left just parked yes parked on a public road for so long, dont know how long it was there before i came across it but as stated before tax was well out of date.

the only bit of damage on the car when i went to see it after getting log book was to the drivers door the top part had been wenched ajar abit so someone had also clocked on it had been standing.

well this all happened end of 2002 start of 2003 and today im afraid i no longer own the car i sold it to a mate who when heard about all this wanted 1st dabs at it.so i sold it to him in the state i got it as in the pics you see ant the start of the thread(and yes he knows full well the full story of how i got it,made a dam good bit of money on it too)

heres how she looks today

all I can say is well done. All the legal ins and outs are another matter tho. As said about "Mr. Armed Robber", could be dodgy even if it all legal ad above board, but I wish to god someone would point out to me an abandoned car like that that I could get for peanuts

just out of interest, obviously you won't answer this if u don't want to, but how much have you spent in total from 1st enquiring about the car to how it looks in the new pics u just posted?

For a car like that to be lying all that time and police, pikeys, traffic wardens, typical little scrubbers, etc not to notice, then good luck. Must be a big time gangsters car

Thats a really good story, just read this thread right through.

What type of road was it sitting on as I used to come accross stolen and dumped cars fairly regularly in the country near my parents place (one even had a safe in! ) but they were always stripped or burnt by kids who would have walked miles to get there. I used to see them on my training rides when out in the sticks.

I reported the odd one to the Police but they were always cleared within a day or so.

Cool story though. I wonder if anyone on hear knows or knew the previous owner being such a huge site.

Cue all the people now wandering the streets looking for cars with out of date tax by a day or two and the DVLA being inundated!

That’s a cool story dude, I can understand why the dvla gave you the car. U gotta at it in the sense that if say an old guy owned it and had passed away and knowone has taken the car then why should it just sit there. So that’s a damn good bargain for a car though aint it £450 for a cossie damn cool, wouldn’t even get my car for that.

U defo cant get arrested for theft as you’re the registered keeper of the car so basically in the eyes of the law its your car now. Only thing the original owner could do is to take it up with the DVLA, as if they are gonna bother after leaving it there for 4 years.

Jammy git, i'm sure anyone else would have done the same thing given the circumstances despite what they say. I think anyone that "forgets" about there car for about 2 1/2 years isn't really going to be that bothered, and having gone through the PROPER channels you have the law on your side. Best of luck to you mate!

i doubt it would of been there since 2000, it must of been somewhere else since then and maybe got moved there shortly before Gaz found it... by who and why is pretty irrelevant

no contact from the existing owner is fairly easy to explain, what if he/she had moved? DVLA maybe send a letter or 2, new house owner sticks it straight in the bid (LOL i know i do)

Did you HPi it ? If the owner was not bothered about it, then why would they park it and put a huge steering lock on it?

I bet the original guy who owned it is probably either dead, locked up, or on the run in another country, that's just something you don't forget to take care of...... Might even be a lottery winner or something?

Fair play though, and well done, if you didn't have it someone else would have done!!
