I didnt say it wasnt possible but how can you have a mk4 shell with mk3 id, that would mean it has been rung over?

its possible to gain the nessecary 8 points when reshelling, by using everything off the donor car you would get 9 points (1, for engine, 2 for transmission etc) . And you only need 1 visible vin tag (i.e the vin plate) have a read on the dvla website

I dont doubt that it can be done....cos where there is a will there is a way....

But my point is that THE CAR has a fully seam welded floor pan and is on a Mk4 shell.

Come on

I don't see an issue to be honest!

It's only like building a kit car and using a donor car and then using it's ID as well (which is perfectly legal).

i wanna know what dash is in it as thats the tough part i was told by another respected memeber whos done this

ONLY LEGAL WITH A NEW SHELL BTW, otherwise its a Q plate or takes the id of the shell if theres enough parts

theres another memeber who is quite clued up on this situation

also thinking about it, a xr3 shell with nothing else of a xr3 aint a xr3 and if ya went to dvla would be classed a Q plate aswell, even though its just a well sorted car been done how it should have been

If its a 2nd hand mk4 shell and the DVLA ever do an inspection it'll end up on a Q plate.... as when reshelling you MUST use a brand new shell and have receipts to prove that!!!!

Copied and pasted from DVLA site.... check the part i've highlighted RED

A. Vehicles that have been rebuilt using a mix of new/used parts.
In order to retain the original registration mark:

Cars and Car-Derived Vans must use:

The original unmodified chassis or unaltered bodyshell (i.e. body and chassis as one unit - monocoque); or

A new chassis or monocoque bodyshell of the same specification as the original supported by evidence from the dealer/manufacturer (e.g. receipt)

And two other major components from the original vehicle - see list below

Suspension (front & back)
Axles (both)
Transmission

Steering Assembly
Engine

If a second-hand chassis/monocoque bodyshell is used, the vehicle must pass a ESVA/SVA test after which a "Q" prefix registration number will be allocated.

N.B Vehicle Identification Check

From 7th April 2003, all cars and some tricycles (e.g. Robin Reliant) that are written off by an insurance company or declared scrapped by their owners due to accident damage will have to be notified to DVLA.
VIC has been introduced to deter criminals from disguising stolen cars with the identity of written off or scrapped ones. The check is designed to help confirm that the vehicle being returned to the road has been repaired following accident damage and has not been stolen.

For further information contact the Vehicle Operator Services Agency Website on www.vosa.gov.uk.

i was quoting form this bit

B. Radically Altered Vehicles

This covers vehicles which are substantially altered from their original
specification, but which are not kit conversions.
In these cases the vehicle components used from the original vehicle will be
given a numerical value and, in order to retain the original registration
mark the vehicle must score eight or more points.
If less than eight points are scored or a second-hand or modified chassis or
altered monocoque bodyshell is used an ESVA/SVA/MSVA certificate will be
required to register the vehicle and a 'Q' prefix registration number will
be allocated.

The following values will be allocated to the major components used:

Points

Chassis/body shell (body and chassis as one unit - monocoque)* (original or
new) = 5
Suspension = 2
Axles = 2
Transmission = 2
Steering Assembly = 2
Engine = 1

*Direct replacement from the manufactures

NB. Where there is evidence that two vehicles have been welded together to
form one (i.e. 'Cut and Shut') a 'Q' mark will be allocated. ESVA/SVA/MSVA
will be required.

Vehicle Identification Number

This is a legal requirement for all vehicles used on the public highway to
carry a Vehicle Identity Number (VIN). This may be lost when a vehicle is
substantially rebuilt, particularly in the case of kit vehicles where the
chassis/bodyshell may not have been stamped by the manufacturer. In such
circumstances the DVLA Local Office will allocate a replacement VIN.
The DVLA Local Office will issue an authorisation letter and registration
will not take effect until the Agency receives confirmation that the vehicle
has been stamped with the correct identity.

Yes mate your probally not the first and not the last to do this, if it is done correct no one would ever know and at the end of the day they are all old motors and if thats what you have to do to have a clean rs then thats what you have to do

mate if the dvla cheacl most cars out on here acording to the rules im sure theres a few that are more likely to be Q plated

new engine, gearbox,steering rack ect, not long before the only original part of the car is the shell

when ya add new engines that aint ment for it at all and trick gearboxs that aint brand new then its gets worse

IF the guy used a brand new shell its legal, otherwise as jano, steve and essex says its a Q plate and you might not even be that lucky either !!!!!!

steves old car was gonna be crushed if the shell id wasnt proved legal
