Looks like a shed mate

Any car on sale as "swap, WHY??" etc. is normall a shed, and judging by the rust this one looks no different

that's what I want really, but can't afford to strecth anywhere near that far atm

it never clicked about the swap thing, but I thought it looked/sounded straight enough barring the rusted panels and he sounds honest enuff from what's in the ad

leave it alone.
i saw an a reg 2.8i for sale about a month ago, looked in good condition, average milage Ł1150, i think it was in classic cars trader magazine, not sure exatly on the title of the mag, was just stood in shop reading it while my fiancee was clothes shopping

insurance is cheap, probably cheaper than your escort
look out for rust, inner wings, underneath,
cologne engine is very strong and a superb engine, i sold mine in 1998 with 125 thousand on it and i still see it about now.
go for it m8 you wont regret it
