Ive owned Jetski's/Personal watercrafts in the past... Great fun!
1stly you need to decide on whether you want a solo(standup/freestyle) or sit down PWC.
If your looking at a solo then Yamaha & Kawasaki are the Ski's to have.
Alternativly and the best fun IMO PWC's where you sit can take up to 2 passengers, tow wakeboarders, water ski-ers, biscuits etc etc.
The better or the manufacturers include Yamaha and Seadoo.
Yamaha do have a better name for engine reliability, but are not as powerfull as Seadoo, who's current craft is 215HP (seriously mental) Supercharged beast!
Seadoo have the advantage over Yamaha in that the trim system used to raise lower the nose of the craft is superior, and when it comes to jumps, towing etc is in a league of its own.
Legality wise! The open water is not a problem and the only restriction is your ability to ride it propperly/hold on! Lochs or Lakes for your sake often have restrictions and can require registration and have often have speed limits.
Whether you decide on a PWC or a Jetski the price should include a trailer so all thats needed is a towbar and your ofski!
