Default Women in Formula 1

Does anyone think that a woman will ever compete successfully in Formua 1 with men. I know that women do compete with men in other championships within motorsport but does anyone think that they will ever be able to compete in Formula 1.

Your thoughts and opinions please............................................ ..

It's such a physically demanding sport, added to the fact that motorsport in general is very male biased, I think it's unlikely.

what was the name of that woman F1 driver years ago?

Your right it is a very male bias sport but there are still talented women drivers out there who can give the men a run for their money. I know it's physically demanding but it's been proven that with endurance sports such as marathon running if they were to increase the distance of the marathon then women could actually beat men!!

I had this conversation with my boss today and he said that he thought that women could compete with men as it's only driving a car at the end of the day and as long as the woman was talented enough and had the physical strength to do it then why shouldn't they.

Don't know if I agree or not. I don't know if women aren't in formula 1 because they just can't do it or like has been said before they just haven't been given the same opportunities as the men ??????

All it takes is one of you females to decide to get off your fat arse and have the determination to do it. If you're good at driving a car fast, it doesn't matter if you're male of female does it?

Those weren't my words they were the words of my boss and yes he is male!!!

I've taken part in karting competitions and I know how knackered I am after 20 mins qualifying and then a 40 min race. I'm certainly not fit enough to drive competitively but luckily you don't need to be to drive on the roads everyday

It's not just a case of "gettin off our fat arses" as you so nicely put it. Motorsport is a really expensive sport to get into and you would need financial backing to even get a foot in the door.

And financial backing isnt available to women then? Just men?

Women can prob get it easier anyhow providing their talent was as good, work the womanly charms, if they fit that is...

Do you honestly think that a race team boss would say no to a woman if she had the same level of driving skill as a man who would be good enough for formula 1 ? no I dont think so. Will just take 1 woman to really make a go of it for it to happen and i dont see why it shouldnt.

Oh and please dont talk about the cost of motorsport, im only just building a car and its skinning me silly

Did I say that..........NO!!

Any financial backing is hard to come across until you have got a record within motorsport. It's when you first start out and you want to become involved in it that's hard.

very few indycar or champ drivers do a decent job in F1.

I think the only one to do well was Villenueve but he's lost his way quiet a bit now.

Anyone watch that Formula Woman TV series on ITV last year?

Remember the only female instructor getting sacked in the first or second episode? 'nuff said!

a woman may be able to do a couple of laps but will not be able to endure the relentless forces constantly during a race.... i mean most men will not be able to aswel. you really have to be very very fit.

oh also the fact that f1 cars dont have abs

Right serious answer time

There have been 3 or 4 female F1 drivers over the years. Bernie was actually responsible for running one of them. However, she was quoted as saying half her time was taken up doing promotional work. Simply because she was a woman. She had to endorse all sorts of ladies products which as a result ate into her preperation time.

Physical condition. Until you're driven an F1 car you are no where near ready to understand the forces involved on the body. (Obviously I havent) They are immense. Every gear change is a 1g loading up the arse. 4g on braking. Thats why you tend to get Women doing IRL or Cart. No real load changes. Women are PHYSICALLY weaker (like for like) than Men. And to get stronger they would need to bulk up a lot. And then they would look like Female rugby players and no one would hire them.

Then theres the problem of a womens Psyche. Men are genetically pre-disposed to show off. And take chances in life. Women are normally more sensible in comparison and, as a rule, would not go for the killer, late braking, on the last lap to win. They'd play the percentages.

But more fundamental than ALL of that even is the simple fact. There are 20 F1 drivers at any one time. And ALL of them (even the backmarkers) are 100 times better than anybody on here. When you have the number of Men competing to get into F1 and failing. What hope for the handfull of Women, with all their other handicaps.

Oh and read what Bernie was quoted at Indy as saying

"You know, I've got one of these wonderful ideas that women should be all dressed in white like all the other domestic appliances,"

Full story regarding Bernie on Danica Patrick here

But this is all just Feminist nonsense. If there were Women competing in F1 already. No women would care. Its because they cant do it they want to do it. Bloody Typical
