been reading up on the vauxhall engines in track day mags and apparently their the dogs when it comes to modifying em.. their bullet proof and most already have stronger internals than is used in std form so cost a lot less to tune ..

so it appears vauxhall got something right after all

seen quite a few mk1 and 2 escorts with xe's in them, seems a popular conversion for rallying because of the reliable 200bhp plus you can get on tb's

think SBD even do a modded bellhousing so you can fit the T5 box to the xe with ease

Not unusual at all, i know loads of people who have had them, its a very common conversion, more common than putting in a YB.

The XE is a good engine, but the standard rod bolts are litter (replace if going over 7200rpm) and the standard rods are crap too.

Block/head/crank though are all YB standard, and you can buy one for a few hundred quid, forged pistons too in the early ones.

And yes you can get a bellhousing from SBD to take a type 9 or T5 box.

Cant see much point in that rover though, why not just use a corsa instead?

chip-3door, Why - because hes mad lol - and just wanted to see how far we could go. At its time of build it was one of the few cars that didnt have too much overhang past each wheel - making it ideal and the floor pan was right for chopping up.

Its wheel base is Subaru impreza (as that was the original running gear) , it ran a 6 speed sequential box, 9 inch ford rear diff in WRC cradle, and ended up on ford Gp A hubs all round, it won its class in many a rally - and even took an out right win on one.... Keep your Corsa lol

The engine and box was sold via the internet and ended up in Japan, and its currently being re built with a new XE for a friend to compete in next month. We may take it to Croft day for a shake down.

The point was could it be done .... and the answer was yep

Better than YB imo, the 16v Astra would have been called the Cosworth Astra were it not for Fords interest in Cosworth blocking them using the name.
