am i right in thinking the cossie would clean up?
ive said to a mate at work who owns the said bike that we'd go for a tear up when my engine is in..
not from standstill obviously.. but from say 60mph...
easy win?
cheers

Dave dont get carried away with your dyno figure....in car thats around 415-420bhp...once you take the @ wheels lose off around 330bhp.......so work it out............253bhp per ton...GSXR rear wheel figure around 100bhp around 600bhp per ton!..(Based on ESCOS weighing 1200kg and Bike 160kg)
Who gonna win?...LOL!

I had a race a year ago with a GSXR600, I was in my turbo nova,
rough figures for the car were 311bhp and weighed in at 750kilos max, it was totally stripped with 2 buckets thats all
racing from 60 onwards several times it was a dead match to 120 then onwards from there I could pull a fair amount from him, that was from 3rd gear
From 4th and at 90 I would just come on boost as I thought he was getting past then I would pull around 4 car lengths to 155mph+
I should hope the cossy would comfortably waste one, especially as they are much better geared than the crappy gearbox I was using at the time

i kept up with a cbr600 in me stage1 2wd from 2nd gear all the way to 130ish. Oh and before anyone says out about it only being stage1 it was a very very quick stage1 saph. Bikes are good 0-100ish but a good well sorted cos will waste a 600 bike from a tonne up no bother imo

from my experience with bikes, i think he might have the edge, but all ways worth ago.
best if you race from the stand still, if your transmission is sorted.

i own a 1997 gsxr 600 (dyno'd at 99.4bhp@wheel) newer 600's are quicker than mine but i would expect the cossie to win to be honest like mate. off the mark launching a bike well is a lot harder than launching a car well imo, as giving it large off the line results in front wheel generally in the air on the bike, takes a LOT more ability and bottle to ride a bike quick

Impossible to say without seeing you drive Dave, and knowing how well the other guy can ride

Having been on both sides of the fence, it is perfectly possible to hold a 600 on a b-road in a cossie (traffic permitting of course).

600 bikes are quick but over rated by both car drivers and bikers. There fast off the line, but slow down from a tonne up imo. Power to weight is all good and well but its pure power that makes for top end acceleration

both can be difficult, but almost anyone can ghet a car to make a reasonable start, takes some balls to make a fookin good start on a bike, all depends on teh bike as well, ive had bikes with only 140brake at the back wheel and there a fookin nightmare to launch - in fact i gave up , no matter how controlled i tried to get a good powerful start the fooker just wanted to go vertical - so i sold it

Dave - Jayb's old car (fletch's) could keep with a 7r and an R6 from 80mph - then at about 130 start to pull them in - so i would imagine - IF the road is straight its not going to be dead easy but possible - if there is any form of bends then you will moer than likely come out on top.
I wasted a GSXR600 after having my car mapped
- this was from about 60mph...the biker was a little shocked to say the least ![Big Grin](https://passionford.com/forum/images/smilies/icon_biggrin.gif)
![Big Grin](https://passionford.com/forum/images/smilies/icon_biggrin.gif)
Most cars seem to loose 30-40bhp from scs's dyno to incar though. so its easy to do the maths.

Bike
but not by much.
Most cossie 'races' with bikers have the element of surprise, where the biker thinks WTF?! then has to drop down a gear or 3. But your mate will be ringing its neck from the off and will be tough to catch and tougher to overtake.
In the bends, you'll kill him.... literally
Interested in the result tho'... good luck with the new engine.

4by cossie's dont loose 100bhp through the transmission, no where near - it's just a product of the way the power is measured. I think 125 killo watts would do some damage!

Rick - 100bhp minimal loss with the 4x4. Look at the power ATW of any stage 3 (330 bhp) 4x4 and it will have less than 230bhp.
Frog - traction isn't a problem for the bike, the front end leaving the tarmac is (from a standstill). Can the gixer use wheelie bars

Rick - you'll have to enlighten me, mate. How "should" it be measured and what are the actual losses thru average 4x4 transmission?
Dave - yes I have. I bought it to do the WRC rear wing, but as I'm selling up, its surplus stock. Debadged, light tint glass, diamond white and good/very good condition and no holes
I've even got the key for it!

i screamed round a gsxr750 that didnt see me coming on the slip road to the bypass, as i passed him and got him bang behind me in the rear view i saw him knock down and squat in, he never caught me, guess i passed him at about 70 at bottom of 3rd cog, he did thumbs up at the island where we both had to stop, i never did catch him back up after that though

say the bike is 166 Kg same as my 750 and thats the dry weight. add 20Kg maybe for fluids and then an 85Kg rider which is approx 13stone includin lid, leathers etc.
thats 271 Kg and at 100 rear wheel hp = 369 bhp per tonne.
esc cos gotta be more than 1200kg? and add your own weight for arguments sake 80 Kg and its nearer 1400Kg?
bike will have more power to weight but deffo loses more toward and over 100mph so you should start the race as high as poss
do it properly so theres a clear indicator of when to start etc so theres no nonsense at the end
discuss before ya go out![Wink](https://passionford.com/forum/images/smilies/icon_wink.gif)
i really dunno what will happen but i'd like to know![Top](https://passionford.com/forum/images/smilies/smile011.gif)

the bike WILL win.
all you out there that think that a car corners faster than a bike then ive news for you, they dont, not over say 70 mph anyway.
quick example, tony pond (rip) lapped the isle of man tt course at just over 100mph in a standard 800 rover turbo,at the time a bik can do it at 122mph.the rover was everything but standard and only lasted a few laps as they had to turn the boost up that much for it to get anywhere near.
as for modern days,a production gsxr1000 or R1 now laps at 126mph,now try that in your standard cosworth.just as a comparisson a gsxr600 can do it at an average of 122mph!!!!!fook me a cossie would need two headgaskets,a turbo and three gearboxes in 6 laps, all a bike needs is petrol.
anybody want proof of this then feel free to chalenge.
but i dont have a gsxr600,ive got an SP1

beating a standard bike isn't much of an achievement, specially if it's only a 600. they're quick but like you say lack the mid-range grunt. might be a different story in controlled conditions (brunters or something) where the biker would feel safer going at speed and the car can properly give it some too!
do they ever do bike vs car drags officially? don't think i've even seen one at pod RWYB
