Thread was started as a joke..........please believe me when I say that.

I'm actually giving this some serious thought now, engine WAS going to be fitted into the car by Brom this weekend, then 500-600 running in miles followed by live mapping by Karl.......

BUT, if I can get the engine Dyno'd next week (at Simon Norris's) and then final live map by Karl I will be up for Brunters pre-qualifing......(of course it may not qualify )......

EEEEK.......NEVER thought that I would ever dare put my own car through such torture and abuse

I'll add you to the list with a proviso that the car is ready . I will also be asking Simon / Brom / Karl to ensure you haven't slipped them a sly Ł50 to ensure that it is delayed for a week or so, so that you don't now look like the colour of your car above .

No need for the Ł50's Mike............IF it's been properly live mapped by Karl it will be there).

Breakages? Nobody said anything about breakages

Just thinking, during qualifieng and the actual TOTB event, how much time is spent on WOT in total ????? We talking "a few seconds".....or more like a minute + ?????

For the standing 1.2 miles, approx 30-45s depending on how fast your car is....

12 sec or less?

I doubt dougs car would need much over 10 seconds of WOT on the quarter, as obviously you close the throttle a bit during gear changes, well doug would anyway, lol

OK, thanks for answers Chip and Lewis......

Next question:
As availability of the Norris Designs in question for next week, just how important is the engine dyno session.....?

Would a really extensive live map set up by Karl (instead of the engine dyno) actually be as good/safe??????

If Karl can give it enough time then its no problem at all.

And TBH mapping for such an event (the qualifying) is easy as you only really need to sort it out on WOT.

Obviously for the actual event where you have the handling course etc its a sligthy different issue, but for the event on the 28th, you just need WOT to work.

I'd sooner have a live map than a dyno session!(imo)

espically if the live map was with some1 like Kalos von power maker!

Dyno is good for power figures! live map is good for road use!

I think so yes Doug, if you were trying some mad new parts or unknown spec then I would say deffo needs a Dyno. But there is nothing to mental on there so should be fine

OK, those are the answers I wanted to hear.............

But I know that Mike R and Simon (SECS) take a different view - their view that an engine dyno session is absolutelly CRUTIAL.........and of course anybody that owns/runs an engine dyno facility would say the same too.........

I'm answering my own question really I know......but I just want to know that if the Dyno is not available (next week) then the engine will still be "safe" for Brunters/TOTB.

Thats what I thought Lee.............but of course an engine dyno owner will STILL take Ł 800 + Ł 200 fuel of you for mapping "yet another" T4/8 greens/7.2:1 engine...........OR GT35....or whatever

If the dyno isnt available your engine can easily be kept safe for the qualifying, especially as you probably only need 450-500bhp for that or so anyway!

Doug,
It will ONLY be safe, if it has been mapped in the exact same way it will get driven at Brunters. So ipso-facto, it HAS to be mapped at Brunters OR somewhere else that you will be hitting 7.5+k in fifth...

Chip, it may end up on 17's and 3.9:1 diffs like my Bailey Saph was....

That used to max out at Castle Combe at 144 (ish)...but was 6.8 k rev limit

Please point out where I say he WON'T hit these revs at Brunters, as he SHOULD hit 7.5k+ in fifth on the standard gearing and 225/40x18 tyres with 550-ish bhp, hence why I mentioned that you either need to go to Brunters or somewhere else that would see this speed to carry out the mapping. Martin achieved 187mph on his Quaife gearkit with only 517bhp and this requires a smidge over 7500 rpm to achieve .

Mike you said he needs to map it to 7500rpm in fifth

he said it would go considerabley higher than that and you were wrong

i said it wouldnt go considerabley higher than that at brunters s you werent wrong.

I said 7.5+k, which is an abreviation for 7.5 PLUS thousand revs .
