safflad, if ya cant beat em, join em

Steve, the king cobra 460 has 9 sweetspots, it is THEE most forgiving driver out at the moment, and also very long. I have been using a mates 440 recently and all i can say is FOOK ME! You can hit one off the Toe and still get it down the middle. The 460 i am excited about

Go hit one bud

Nice one, drooled over that model in the pro shop today. Its the model with carbon cover and metal inserts right?

I have not played for 5 years due to back injury. Last night I hit a bucket at the range. Using my old Great Big Bertha 3 wood I could hardly hit the ball clean. Then I tried my dads Cobra 430 and whacked the ball all over the range (270+ yards).

Its such a cheat with these new monster drivers.

I hope I can take up the game if my back gets better as I really miss the game.

I'm not a big fan of the King Cobra driver personally, it makes a very funny noise too! But if it works it works!

Hope it goes well for you mate.

aye if it works thats all that matters. I like cobras. The driver i curently have is a king cobra, it is only 380 iirc tho..not a very big sweet spot and i hit that fine...well, 60% of the time lol!

I'm sure it's working better than my 8 year old Callaway Great Big Bertha! My Titleist split along the head and I'm currently waiting to see if I'm going to get a replacement or vouchers.

That Cobra does make a strange noise though!

Love the Cobra drivers, my mate has one which I've had a few cracks with, can't say I've hit a bad drive with it. I do find using my Callaway Big Bertha (old titanium one) more satisfying though, it's not as user friendly but so much more pleasing when you hit a sweet one.

As for the noise.. jesus! if you give it a real big-un it makes your ears ring! sounds a bit like hitting a ball with a stainless steel saucepan.

my old cobra split accross the head, so i got it replaced.

Not really heard anything strange when hitting it. Just a sweet ping then a long wait till it finally lands 300 yrds down the centre lol

Jason, changing driver as other change under wear

That sweet spot must be bigger than the whole head of my Great Big Bertha.

Lee, what golf balls do you use?

i hear a lot of people saying they only ever use one particular type, but i use any i can get hold of?

do different types make a difference?

I use Titleist Pro V1's.

Basically some balls are harder than others, the harder ball will give you more distance and run but less spin/stop on the greens. The softer ball will give you less distance and run but more spin/stop on the greens.

Normally better players play with softer balls, and mid-high handicappers play with harder balls.

The Pro V1 is still quite durable for a soft ball and gives more carry than any other ball out there in my opinion. The Hogan Apex Tour is also a good ball and Strata and Srixon make some reasonably priced premium balls.

For a mid-high handicap player I recommend something like the Titleist NXT.

i generally use a hard ball...ususally maxfli or similar, i do like pinnacle gold too.
Shit news about the ribs mate I too have put off some irons until i have had some lessons, but fancied a bigger sweet spotted driver

Katie, i sometimes use a buggy, depends how much of a lazy twat i am being..usually after a night out

Spenner and jase,, thats given me more confidence in the money ive just forked out you two saying that
LOL SPadge i still get value for money in shots taken after 7 yrs of playing

***UDPATE****

OMG...its here..its big...it AWESOME! Any mid handicapper wanting long straighter drives wants one of these! I have hit ONE loose ball at the driving range out of about 25 drives. All carried over 270 and were within 15-20 meters wide straight!

It is a great club and will help me i know!

sounds good mate.makes me want to go buy some
as for golf balls. pinnacle gold must be one of the hardest balls ever great for long drives but total crap i reckon for around the green and approach shots and id say that were most shots are one and lost.
maxfli revoloutions are great for anytype of player i think.
need to get out very soon for a game.been far too long

i do find softer balls are more controlable Davs2, but i just prefer the harder balls for some reason. Not for the distance..mainly putting...i do not like putting with softer balls

do u not find pinnacle golds etc very fast on hard greens or when playing approach shots.can you get the ball to stop quick with a soft ball you can usually aim straight at flag and will stop within a few yards.
i personally never used to give a fook about golf balls but a few rounds with some decent ones WILL take shots of.i must say though ive never paid for a golf ball in my life.so probably wouldnt part with the Ł3 quid a ball if i was paying

davS2, yeah i get the ball to bite ok with hard balls. I have quite a few titliest pro V1's...30 quid a dozen. They are soft and have great feel, great spin and control...but like i say i dont really like em!

I think i will have to try a few different types of balls. I use nike ones at the moment and they seem ok, but they dont tend to bite on the green v much.

Has anyone had any experience with American Golf? do they tend to know what they are on about?
