Default FFS, this shouldn't happen :wall: soo angry!

Tell you all a little story about a friend of mine. She trained me up when I was 16 in my first job at Sainsburys and as my mother works there we have always kept in contact one way or another.

This year was her 65th birthday, and she was looking forward to retirment like any other person her age.

And ever since she started working when she was 18 way back in 1958 she had been paying he full tax, and full stamp on her pension with the exception of two seperate years when she stopped to have her kids.

Now she is 65 she rang though to start claiming her state pension, for which she has been paying full stamp for for over 45 years. And they gave her details of how much she would be entitled to, anyone wanna take a guess?

She is entitled to 9p a week

9p a week! What a fucking joke

They even had the fucking cheak to ask if she wanted it paid in monthly or weekly into her account she said weekly as it would cost em more to do it that way than her penson

Gotta be a mistake, tell her to visit citizens advice, maybe the pension is correct and the fault lies at the employer?

iirc if you have more than £6k savings or something you get very little pension, didn't realise it was that little.

Deffo go to CAB though.

Pensions are a huge CON! Remember when she started paying in Pre-decimilisation. 9p a week was probably the equivilent of £200 a week back then.

Inflation over the years. Was offered a pension where I used to work in 40 odd years time it would have been £6K a year which will probably work out to equivilent of £50 a week by then.

never ever have i payed into a pension scheme for this very reason.

Invest the money or put it into a high interest savings account.

Property and investment are the best pensions for me

State Pension is a con! But its gonna be so much worse in 30-40 years time when many of us will start claiming a pension.

I bet we get fcuk all back relative to what we've put it. I bet if you've worked hard, saved sensibly, you'll get shafted for having saved and get FA state pension. I bet if you've done the sensible thing and paid for a decent private pension you'll get FA state pension.

I just know that in 40 years time, when I'm eligable to claim a pension, I'm gonna get shafted big time.

That is disgusting. We look after all the freeloaders and assylum seekers and we do nothing to look after the old. Phoney Tony and his band of merry thieves want shooting

We had someone in talking about our pension.

It's a final salary one (been in it a while) and I was quite surprised when we did some calculations:

Someone retiring at 65 that has been earning nearly £20k, and has been paying into the scheme for the last 15 years, will get £4k.

£4k for fucks sake. After being used to 20??

He said the state pension would go on top of that - at the moment that's another £4k.

Pensions do seem a bit shite

State pensions imo wont be around when most of us reach a pensionable age. As at the end of the day it simple maths soon there will be more people taking out than putting in due to an aging population
