Default pc help ...

oh bugger had a right mare of a time with my pc ...

ok .. win xp pro service pack 2

gets to xp start up screen then goes blank ...
can start it in safe mode ..
taken me ages to get it working ..
reinstalled service pack 2 and have got back in ..

need a good bit of software to scan the registery etc etc .. got norton but i think its missing summit ..

any ideas ???

I would use Norton utils.

Or is that what your have.
Probably had a duff driver somewhere

used norton utils ... fixed all problems ... its done it before but i can normally get it going easily .. this time was a real pain ...

boot it up in logging mode mate and tell me what it crashes on

go into safe mode and then device manager and uninstall any dodgy hardware

or failing that uninstall every device then try booting normally and if it goes in it was a driver prob windows will reload them

registry errors usually pop up on screen giving you an error msg

your bits will be in post tomorrow

thats exactly what happened to me, after a few weeks of running SP2, had to re-instal eventually, was getting longer and longer booting, and sometimes just staying on the startup screen, from the info i got from the system, it was drivers failing to load.

cheers mate... will try it again tomorrow and see what happens ...
checked with norton av and utils...
checked with spybot and ad-aware...
looked at device manager .. no probs there ....
