I am looking into getting one for when I go on hols this year, but I dont know anything about them , I understand you can go to download sites, but can you save cd's to your pc from your own collection and put them onto the player.
Please someone explain how they work and recommend what size gigger whotsits I need, I dont want it to hold 1000's of songs, maybe 10 albums and some singles?

Cheers Techno peeps

I take it you mean MP3 Player? MP3 is just another file format but one that is very popular when it comes to music. As it provides good quality sound and good compression.

And yes, you can save cd music to your comp. Use windows media player 10 and you have the option of burning to mp3 on it.

As for download sites, prob not best to mention on here lol.

As above

Treat yourself to one, and get one with loads of memory. Some have room for 60,000 tracks

I am looking to get one that plugs onto the CD changer in the boot for my Range Rover

What you need to be careful of is claims of how many songs it can hold!

EG. Just looked up a 4gb ipod listed on argos and it says "Holds up to 1,000 songs on a 4GB hard disk drive"

Now, if the songs average 5 mins each and are recorded at CD quality (128k), which is as good as 1mb per minute then....

4gb x 1024(mb in a gb) = 4096mb

4096mb / 5mins per tune = 819 tunes NOT 1000!

I have over 7000 mp3s on my pc, if i want to listen to some in the car can you imagine how long it takes to pick a 100 or so to burn onto a cd?
Then you end up with loads of cds with duplicate tunes on due to not remembering whats on others than have been burnt!
I want something where i can dump the whole lot on so i dont have to mess about burning cds all the time

All i know is dont get a bloody Ipod they are awful! The break all the time, they cant play all formats, you need itunes to make it work, you can only asign your ipod to one computer without deleting everything else on it when you asign it to someone elses comp.

Iv got an Irive, 20gb, and the battery on it is class, lasts all day of constant playing at a relativly high volume, it plays ever format i know, and its plug and play format so it works on any computer, and you just drag and drop the files. Its also plays vdieos in full colour screen. All irivers work on the drag and drop multi format context. Highly recomended! Also for general mp3 player usage, i surgest getting a recharble one, as it would cost you a fortune in batteries.

What a total crock of shit.

All you have to do is look about on the visual interweb and see what I mean.

I use iPodlounge and have had no issues like you have stated.

My iPod is registered on my home machine, my home laptop and my works PC. Mine has never broken.

I give £100 for my 15gb one about 6 months ago, its got just under 3,000 tracks on it at various quality (128 - 320 - VBR) and it does me just fine. So much so that I am looking at the iPod shuffle and upgrading mine to the 60gb version before the end of the year.

I hate Apple equipment, but this has me hooked.

If it were me, I would recommend an iPod Mini.
