ive recently installed norton internet security 2005 on my computer and lastnight i got a little box pop up saying that a recent attempt to access/hack your computer has been made(or words to that effect).

What exactly does that mean, that someone out there has tryed hacking my computer? and my security was sucessfull at blocking the bas**rds!?

 

this is a regular thing mate. Set your security settings to block these attempts and you can turn off this notification as it will get annoying

 

yeah i usually get a trojan horse trying to kick my back doors in

 

keep ur norton regurally updated and u should be ok.

i really should buy some sort of anti virus and firewall.
i wouldnt like to guess how many people have seenw hats on my pc.

 

Ive had Zone alarm installed on my computer for about 9 months and have just hit the one million access attempts rejected.

Its the high rated ones you gotta worry about, had about 10,000 of those!

 

zonealarm slowed my pc down so i got rid of it.

 

Most of the time these "attempted hacks" are simply the net working as it should be!

IMO all firewalls do most of the time is create paranoia

 

most if not all THESE companies that make the virus blockers etc also create virus every now and then to attack THEIR on sytems so u buy another upgrade of them it's all part of their game to make £££££££££££

Got to agree with Martyn to an extent.. also, if you have a badly configured firewall you might as well not bother!!

 

most are just port scans, nothing sinister

 

I use panda titanium antivirus and the windows XP firewall


Both excellent been running like this for over a year!

 

Sygate Personal Firewall + Mozilla = minimal security probs.

Of course running Linux is the best solution. When I get my next PC........
