Team HOTHOT!
can't see it happening to be perfectly honest - people would simply not use the roads full stop and the government would be screwed for income - they would loose out bigtime - they are already making loads thru VED and fuel duty - under the proposed plan, their income could be cut by as much as 40% - and to pay for that, VAT and other taxes would rise including income tax and NI - its just scare mongering and political bullshit.

but we already pay tax as we go,and the more you drive the more tax you pay! its called fuel tax! why do the government not understand it is already like this and always has been! if i drive 10000 miles i pay much more to the tax coffers than if i drive 3000 miles!

I spose if you are doind 70 mph on motorway it could cost nearly Ł95 a hour.
Also think about it they will know how fast you are going everywhere, thyink of it as the ultimate GATSO

ok so say your an average driver... 20k a year maybe...
the MINIMUM you can pay is 2p a mile...
Thats Ł400 a year!
Ok so they say they will scrap fuel tax... but they wont as fuel will become about 70% cheaper! So they will probably cut 10-20p off a litre and claim its going to save you money in the long run...
It might... it might not!
But then again how many goverments have ever cost people LESS ?

For all those saying it'll never happen, think again as it already under trials and is to be introduced on HGV first
And dont expect it to replace fuel duty, it will replace car tax so you'll get double shafted

Just cos things happen slowly doesn't mean they wont happen

LOL i didnt think it would be that bad for you lot who only knock about on quite roads in cossies which sup stupid amounts of fuel! tax free diesel would be 30p or less as thats what we get red for so petrol would be between 20-30

Professional Waffler
If these systems can measure how far you are traveling they will also be able to measure speed. This stinks to high heaven and I hope this crackpot scheme falls flat on its arse.
