Slowpoke,
It is mainly to do with the fact that the diffs have already done 100+k, so this is why they break. Mind you, if you're handy with the spanners, a diff can be repaired for next to nothing, as the planet gears used to be £7 each - normally all three would let go (if they're still available from Ford).

Mike Rainbird,
Yep that is definitely the problem with Quaife if you put in an old, worn CWP and / or don't have it correctly dialled in.

mike the problem with the quaife is if you loose grip on one wheel the your fooked !! if it 'goes light' the all ya power goes to that wheel ,and iff you keep it on not knowing this (cause your poss a goon !! ) then it will just speed up so fast with the torque of a decent motor and fook the cwp !!
in 4wd its a diff kettle of fish , the trasmission has another few corners to try and distribute the drive !!
soem like the quaife some dont - i personally dont having used both ATB and PLATED i know what my choice would be !

Mark,
I think you would have to be a total loon to get a road / track Cosworth to lift a rear wheel , I NEVER had this problem and I loved the way you could steer the car on the throttle. At ND a few years ago at Dono, the 3rd corner (not very sharp one just before down hill section to Craner) after the start finish straight, I could leave two black lines all the way round it with slicks on EVERY lap .
Obviously rallying / loose stuff is a totally different kettle of tuna. I certainly prefered the characteristics of the ATB to the standard item.

u need to use the kerbs m8 !!! thats all !!
i agree with the fact that yes they work very well under full straight line equal road surface under each wheel scenario , simply because it has no choice as to where to put the drive , it either transmits or breaks (unusual for the latter - but knowing quaife products not impossible ) and if the grip is of an equal amount ( or within a small tolerance cant remeber what the figure is tho ) then it has to distribute equally !!

I've never broken a diff EVER!
I've done 200+ launches at the pod, I've done 10 track days on it (two on slicks), and I've driven like an animal.
However, it is clearly only a matter of time, so I am having the ZOO/Jag diff conversion...................

Did you not forget that I am running a standard diff on mine and running considerably more power than you are looking at..... diff is fine and has done 2k on the new engine. I simple will not and do not launch it as I realise the consequences if I do. Derek also ran a standard diff until he did TOTB and blew it to pieces.... again his was fine until he started doing launches. They are pretty much hardy units as long as you don't want to launch...... horses for courses.

Mike,
Up your arse...... no forget that as you will only enjoy and relish the act!!!
Karl,
You should of said.....
"Mark, let me drive your car for 1000 miles without launching, then let me drive it for 1/4 a mile with a single launch. Now push the car back down the drag strip and pick up your CPW on the way back to save on shoe leather!! Tell me what your conclusion is!"

Never had a problem with my Gripper diff, has done loads of launching in my car (400ish bhp) in 4000+miles also used in A1 Rally Sport focus launching on drag tyres (500+nos bhp)
It has been inspected at Bernies and he said its fine.

Tiff=If your asking anyway.See if there a chance of a group buy as a few seem interested.I would if price is right.See how many they would need to get a tidy discount.

the gripper is one of if not the best now available diff for the cosworth , excellant traction capabilities whether the surface is rough or smooth , even when in the damp the diff is very good , the only downside to a plated diff is that their a little noisier in operation than the shitty viscous unit , but certainly not unbearable like some close cut crownwheel unit , just a few small clunks here and their ! ive a 3 diff gripper units from Tom , hes a very good man and knows his diffs, i wouldnt recommend any other unit (apart from ZF if ya can find one ) , tom will advise you on the req ramp angles and preload for your application , tbh best to get someone whos good with transmission to fit the unit cause theres a little bit of mods here and there to fitting it !!
