Default Will passionford stop one day

Hi all

Is it just my computer or is passionford just getting slower and slower ???????
I spend hardly any time on here these days as everytime i visit i get sooooo pissed off after 5 mins as it is taking so long to look at a post and switch from post to post i just cant be bothered to wait that long ,,
I am on dial up ( No broadband where i live yet ) so i know we suffer a little ,,but i can go on any other website and dont have this problem I have read Stu"s post but to be honest if you arnt a computer boffin it means fook all to ya .
This is not a moan as i know running this site is hard work , but i am just getting board with waiting , even pressing the back button and it actually doing it is taking forever

Paul .

Seems like the hardware does take a good hammering with all the MySQL requests going on, maybe pruning the topics a bit more may help to reduce the size of the database??? but again may not be such a good idea if it means deleting useful posts, or perhaps the only way is bigger and better (if possible) which again means more costs.

Lol I'd love to see what effect 200-300 online users at a time has on my site

To be honest it is pretty bad lately, pretty much every other large car forum manages to run without problems and can have a search function without crashing etc, and a lot of them arent as well funded as this site i suspect so its just a case of spending the membership money on the correct hardware.
Comes down to time no doubt though, the people running the forum are busy with other things in their lives besides just PF of course.

Same here in the States fellas, tis why I hardly come on now a days... which really sucks because I like coming here but now it's kinda no worth the wait.
To me, It was running beautiful before they decided to do the first Search Disable, it's all gone tits up since then.

I don't like to moan either, but to be honest, I've been on maybe 8 days in the past two weeks, and every day there's been a fault, or it's been mega slow.

Works fine right now though...........

Works fine at the moment, but NO search function, which on a technically orientated car forum is a really bad state to be in cause all the assets this forum has (the previous posts) are inaccessable to new members (or exisiting ones!)

Plus every time i upload my avatar is screws up the next day for some reason.

yup, working nice and speedily for me atm.

For those who say PF is less reliable than other sites.......is it just that you don't browse other sites as much as PF and therefor don't see their problems as much ?

not one to usually moan

but.. it seems ok for now, but thats always the way.. 1min its fine, nice and quick. then later or tomorrow it'll be dead slooooooooowww again.

you do ask for feedback so

also, I think because it used to run really quick for months on end a while back.. as soon as it slows, people are quick to mention it

Where did i imply it was slow now Stu? If you are going to quote me then quote the whole sentence and not just 3 quarters of it!
I said more often than not it is slow!
Its easy for you guys to gloat about it being quick now but when it is slow more often than it is fast then thats nothing to brag about

Whos bragging? You will find to be honest i couldnt care fooking less about it Spadge... the quote was simply an error. Get a life... leave.. whatever you want to do, but dont bother trying to pick a fight with me about it as i couldnt give a flying fuck one way or the other at the moment

I was just pointing out that this site is slow more often than it runs at normal speed! Why have you retaliated only to me Stu as there are others saying the same thing
As for me getting a life thanks but i have a great life and am only on here now as its raining and the site is for once running at a speed that means using it isn't like pulling teeth!

Don't want to enter a war with anyone as i'm not upset by anyone at all !!!
I just need to make clear that when i ask how it's running, i need an answer regarding the very moment, as i work on the code all day long from hour to hour, and so if it's slow the morning or the day before, after my work it can as well become very fast and stay like this, that's all ! especially considering that i KNOW everytime it is slow, so it's a bit useless to tell me it was the day before or even one hour before, if you get my point
at the mo it seems to stay reliable and fast looking at your comments, and i think it will stay like this now. Let's see tonight !

and thanks to you all for your feedback

Nice calm post there Petrucci
I don't have the time to get on here much during the day nowadays as i have a life lol but after about 9pm most nights when i do come on here for a qucik half hour it has been very slow in recent weeks!
I am not a computer person and don't need to know the reasons why but it would be nice if at least 90% of the time in the late evening it was running at a reasonable speed without all the errors etc...
Thats it from me
a very chilled
Spadge....
