Quad Bikes, how legal
Ok, this is just an idea, but are you allowed to drive/ride Quads on the road. I only live a couple of miles fom work and fancy one to use for work and to have a laugh.
if it's legal, whats tax, insurance etc like

G'f's parents have a 400cc honda here which has a registration plate and is road legal. It is mainly used for getting around the farm but can be used if need be. It only needs a bike licence here and I dont think a helmet is required.

The only problem the Police have is the helmet issue,
If YOU call it a bike then you need to wear a helmet.
If its not a bike then its a car so you have to wear a seat belt.
Quad plus no helmet = Brains splashed all over the road.
Quad plus seat belt NOT very COOL
No choice it has to be Helmet.
For theft insurance at home you need an approved anchor and lock like bikes have.

Had a 250cc quad since January. only need a car license. use it everyday for my 6mile commute to work.
No hassle of the police if you wear a helmet.(for safety, not style)
Solid rear axle = drifts like a RWD cossie

I was told it can be either licence but if you ask most coppers who represent the law they wouldn't have a fooking clue anyway

I borrowed 1 off a friend for about 2 weeks years ago. Was fully road legal on its tie wrapped rear number plate that flipped up so you couldn't read it if you went any faster than about 5mph. Was great fun on the road did about 50mph with no indicators Speedo etc just a brake light so you had to hand signal! You don't need to ware a helmet but I did and the only other thing was I had to tighten up the rear diff every so often with a spanner. Putting a passenger on the back was scary the slightest touch of the throttle saw the front wheels in the air! Was a 2wd 350cc If I remember. Insurance was less than 100 for the year and tax was about £20 it was classed as an agriculture vehicle.
