It is primarily a ECU for normally aspirated engines (non turbo).

Designed to replace ROVER ecu's.

I use it on my Exige and I am very impressed with it. The software is the best ECU software that I have EVER seen or used. It is SOOOOOOOOOO simple and easy.

The aftersales support is spot on and the price for the ECU is spot on at Ł550.

I would love to see someone put it on a cossie on here, as I think as soon as one person has done it LOADS will follow.

Matt,

Not sure if its evolved into suitable use for turbo applications.
Best ask on one of the rover forums for better details.

YES it will run a turbo charged car. It will run any car. The guy that designed it runs it on his Audi Quattro.

Anyone that used to read CCC will know the vast variety of cars that Dave Walker ran on his Emerald ECU's.

They have been around for years as well. Will do close loop, boost control, will run air injectors, coil pack, single coils, switchable maps, individual injector trim, ALS, Launch control, a rev counter output that is fully configurable, it has a huge amount of features built in as standard.

its as simon says a NA ecu that requires a boost controller

unless its changed in the last year

i was gonna get emerald off dave ( top guy btw, hes always busy though so call in the morning ) and never went for it as he said himself hes not sure about the turbo aplication, hes done it before but requires a seperate boost control function and so he didnt think it was ideal for me

a very very honest guy

Pretty sure Emerald can run air injectors and it certainly has full boost control facilities including closed loop boost control.

You can use map as your main load or TPS with a map correction so no probs with turbo cars.

Like everyone has said the software is awesome and at 200+vat for a full map no matter how long it takes it is a total bargain!

Lorven Performance Services in Martlesham, Ipswich are soon to have a 400 bhp 2wd saph running on Emerald.

If Dave is busy i would give them a call and see what they can do for you.

Why???

Bit of a sweeping statement with no back up!

You cossie boys are so closed minded! Bit like bloddy sheep.

I have an emerald ecu that has been live mapped by emerald and I cant fault it either. Borrowed a laptop of a friend and now drive with the serial lead over the roof as I'm always playing with it. Has loads of features that I don't use, 8 injectors, traction control, boost control, Lamba control, tell tail etc etc. Comes in handy when diagnosing problems especially with faulty engine sensors etc.

If you goto the emerald website as posted above you can download the software free from there and have a look around at all the features.

when i was looking last year it never done boost control , im not blinkered in anyway as tony youy recomended it but dave said its designed as a N/A ecu and may not suit my 25+psi i was planning as hes never done it before , i give him credit for being honest though

but at that time they just added data loging onnthe ecu

remember theres a difference between blinkered and worrying about destroying a 5k plus engine for for the sake of saving 200 quid

i should have went for DTA but went for omex which is basicly the same ecu idea (N/A) but was proven to handle it on christians car so was worth the risk, also cost me the same as the emerald but came with a loom ( and glove box )

are people sure that the emerald that does boost control ect is 550 quid(plus vat)

dave walker is a very smart guy though and very helpful so dont forget ya get full back up support off him and if he has the time he always advises customers HONEST advice

8 injectors, traction control,
traction control ??????

8 injectors ?????

ALS ????????

emerald dont seem to say that but they now have a boost control valve on the system and im guessing that they have now fully tested it and are now sure it works and i can only guess at the time dave walker wasnt 100% with the system

the sec taken off emeralds website is as follows

Input Distributor trigger Yes

Inductive or Digital sensors

Crank trigger Yes

Inductive or Digital sensor, Selectable trigger patterns

Air temperature Yes
Coolant temperature Yes
Engine load Throttle pot and/or MAP 0-5v signals
Oxygen sensor 0-1v or 0-5v signals
Road speed Yes
Other Coded immobiliser input. Compatible with Lucas 5AS unit.

2 auxilary 0-5v analogue inputs

Output Ignition coil drivers 3 internal
Injector drivers 6 internal
Other Fuel pump relay control.

Supply relay control.

Cooling fan relay control

Tacho driver

Oxygen heater control

Shiftlight

Boost control valve

2 auxiliary outputs

5v and 8v sensor supplies

thats what it does how ya use the extra inputs/outputs dont mean its designed for it !!!!,

but for the money its very very hard to beat !!!!!!!!

as i said it might not be that its properly tested so he doesnt offer it as a actual working option on his ecu

it states its got 6 injector drivers in the ecu too ????

i went by the ecu's specs

please dont think im knocking the emerald system as i was gonna buy it 2 years ago when the rst boys where sticking cossie managment on the erst's for 2500k on cars running 200bhp

its a very good system and i have alot of respect for dave walker being honest and saying hes ecu was designed for rovers in mind and not sure about my aplication

of course at that time i never knew what a aftermarket boost controller was being a ford fan as we can be sooo dam blinkered and ignore stuff we dont fully understand
