Default What is actually the cause of excessive crankcase pressure?

On a turbo car i'm thinking worn piston rings & the boost is just blowing past but what about on a n/a car? Would the same apply?

Hi James.

It's pretty much the same thing in N/A engines, but exaggerated ion Turbo charged cars due to the boost pressure. Having said that, it really depends on what sort of CR the N/A engine is running.
It is just leakage of the compression pressure past the rings (due to worn bores and/ or rings.
I would have thought that the guides and stem seals would have to seriously knackered to pass combustion pressure, but I could be wrong
Worn guides and seals make the thing smokey as a mist of oil can be sucked (or blown in the case of turbo cars) into the inlet charge and burnt.

Hmmmmm i see, i have a mate you see who has a 306 xsi which has excessive crankcase pressure, read as when you remove the oil cap it pumps oil out with the engine running like a fountain. I've said it's fooked and it needs replacing but what is actually fooked, valve guides is a very good call mind..

Rings and bores!

Mate that sounds trucked!

try doing a comp check, i bet it doesn't have any!! I bet it is as slow as you like!!

My sister's XSi did the same thing matey, it leaked oil from virtually every gasket/ joint face.

Rings probably, do a leakdown test, or if you dont have the equipment for that then do a compression test.
