Just shift the map by a set 20 degrees across the map.

Limp home will be interesting though!

30degrees is a start to getting als- the amount of retard after tdc is all dependant on the amount of air/fuel you can use

So what you are saying is that you have to spend £350 just to protect the chip which is costing you over £100 plus mapping charges on top, it f@cking stinks

Dave you don't have to, but to be fair, given the amount of chip copying that used to go on I can't say I blame tuners who use encryption - it's just a shame the (as always) honest end user has to pay for it.

Turbo lag,
So what you are saying is that you have to spend £350 just to protect the chip which is costing you over £100 plus mapping charges on top

no you just dont have it !!

Billabong,
given the amount of chip copying that used to go on I can't say I blame tuners who use encryption

me too !

ive had the copied chips, etc etc ive spent shitloads building engines and putting a copy of someone elses chip in because its 'close'

but after i found ( and to be honoust took a risk ) a company that could do a chip to suit my car ( and lets be honoust mines a bit differant to your average road car) ive probably paid MSD more money in mapping/ecu mods/physical sensing devices than its cost you to build your entire engine last year

and do you know what - i would spend it all again - if they told me that this would make it drive better and have more punch where i needed it, simply because the whole picture is not just the thousands spent on te engine, makes me real when people complain about the cost of a mapping session when they have just spent a fortune on there rebuild, then complain again about it because they want road gimmicks such as ALS and the cost to program that - have you actually seen an ecu map with als in it ? especially a weber ecu fookin ell complicated - ive just doen some mapping work with DTA P8PRO on another vehicle, weber makes this look like childs play, let alone having all the extra function like i have on an old antiquated ecu like weber P8, bare in mind that these P8's are like probably 15 year old, and these people are STILL gettin top performance from the cars with them on, the far easiest route is to ditch the P8 and fit another aftermarket ECU - i could have mapped the car myself then, but part of what im paying for is the expertise of these people who KNOW WHAT THERE DOING.

anyway im going to rant somewhere else whilst i save up to spend some more money on my car at MSD

I wasn't complaining about the cost of the mapping Mark I was complaining about the £350 just to protect the content of the chip
which Iam sure nowadays wouldn't be to difficult to crack.
I would love to take my car to MSD but after the trouble I had with my Stage 3 conversion Iam seeking a more relieable tuner.

Turbo lag,
Iam seeking a more relieable tuner.

now thats a laugh

you tell me how to make a car reliable, in fact - let me put a scenario to you , what is harder to make more reliable, a car that cruises to shows all its life with the ocassional blast up to the limiter, or one that, every time its fired up , will spend 90% of its life 200rpm from its limiter making 400ft/lb from as little as 3000rpm ?????............................................. .....

i rest my case

David,
Try Karl Norris on 07966 506939 Or Tony Mannock Perhaps on 01782 564222

Failing that, theres a multitude of tuners you can try on this forum all with a happy cuntstomer base.

turbo lag, i have over the years tried most of the tuners and early last year tried msd. i now will not go elsewhere full stop.

since stu mapped and set it up 14 months ago i have had a crank sensor and a set of leads because the originals had had enough. the reliability has been spot on and runs like a dream.

my mate has just dropped his car off today to be mapped at msd, because he has seen what they have done with mine. he to has been to most of the tuners but guess whose work impressed him the most.??? he cant wait to pick it up because he knows it will be spot on, and he is hard to please, so that says something in itself.

its your car and your money so do what you want but if i had spent a lot of cash rebuilding a car i would want the best available for it and in my opinion the best is msd without a doubt.

all i can say is good things about stu n kenny!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The story of how i met stu begins here once upon a time we had a escort cosworth yes another ruff running pile of shit 12% emissions so we booked it in at "A well known tuner.. name removed by Stu" and traveld there from sheffield. upon arival at ts we was greeted by yes what u want? oh this is the car is it? so we told him whe had £500 to spend as agreed with tony on the fone hed stop at £500 so we arrived at 8am and left at 8pm with the car worse than when we went and a bill for 1k which he didnt get there after he rechipped it and some other stuff he said we would have to bring it back and leave it with him, so we asked how long for he said "a month or 3" after it breaking down on the way home i called MOTORSPORT DEVELOPMENTS after reading about his work on the rsoc board anyhow stu said i cant diagnose over the fone and he said he would need it leaving with him.

So upon ariving with stu we discussed the car and stu said if it cant be fixed ill know within 2 weeks but i have never had one i cant fix but this could be a first but if it is, i wont charge you a penny. after many late night updates we got a call to say the car was ready so we arranged collection so upon arrival we gave him a case of beer for his good work and collected the bill which was no where near what tonys bill was the first time and the car has run happily ever after!! and we forged a good freindship with stu after we was there that much having freinds / our cars modified so the moral is STU AND KENNY ROCK and MSD is a proper company not a half shot place that dont even have a unit

itsa bit like this- stu if you or kenny were shit at your chosen occupation i would say you were shit - simple as me and my big mouth have got me in trouble a few times for speaking my mind - but, im a big lad i can handle it

and luckily for me - your only 20 miles away and is always a pleasure to have my car at your place simply because it always improves on return,

now ive owned this car for nearly 10 year now and i can honoustly say that in the last 3 years the improvements have been made to the parts of the car that ive struggled to get right in the last 10 years, i was sick of settling for 'oh its just about right' instead of it IS right as it should be.

and as for how much money i spend with stu/kenny believe me its alot less than somepeople obviously think (or would like eh stu ) but what they can rely on is my custom and anyone else who i have recommended for as long as theyre in business. so just for the record, when i 1st started using MSD - wayyyyyy before most people in preston had ever heard about them - what 4 years/5 years ago ??? cant remember, i spent a massive £250 in total with them for a map - for my car - which was even a nasp cosworth so a complete one off for the managment it was running then, so its not about how much you spend in one go, over the years ive spent a few quid - but at no point was i given bullshit advice, sold anything that was a gimmick, nothing that wasnt practical in the improvement of my car- hence the return trips. and the subsequent freindship overthe years developed into where we are now, they do work for me , i do work for them. although we've still never been out on a big pissup together

thanks a lot at least I know who my friends are now.
