Default how do you make a flamer kit?

its the main boxy thing i need to know about, whats in it etc??

prolly just a coil and a resistor...

i think ive got a coil lying around so just need to nail a sparkplug in the back box and get a ht lead, wiring is no probs either.

its just this control box.... what is it??

i aint gonna spend £100 on summut i can make for peanuts...

its soon gonna be running throttle bodies and be decatted.

also where should i mount the sparker too??

cheers peeps.

no coil in there. It's a switching circuit. Loads of ways of doing it - 555 timer, capacitors resitirs and power transistor.

do you know what the rate at what it switches?? its not critical is it?? i spose it needs to be rapid

the 555 timer should be easy enough, as im just finishing my ONC in electronics lol

cheers mate

easiest way is to just cash out the 40 ish quid for a "flamer kit black box o tricks" from the likes of SCC or Mike R...

this is basically justa 555 timer that will make the spark VERY rapid... you can DIY it with a button you have to keep pressing, but you'll wear your finger out very very quickly

it wont be that hard, just wire in a switch to a latch relay or summut

With an ONC, you should know this.. tut..

Easiest way, is wire up a N/O relay in a closed loop.. Wire the power to it via the N/C and the output will oscillate.. Well actually it'll probably BUZZ.....

So power the 'spark' coil via the N/O, so when power is applied to the relay, the coil energises, but power the relay via the N/C contact.. so at the same time as the coil gets power, the relay looses it, and re-opens the 'spark' coil contact, causing the magnetic field to collapse, which will spark your plug... As soon as the contacts reach N/C again, the relay jumps back to close N/O, and the loop continues..

If you use a naff relay, you might burn the contacts closed (weld em together) so use a better one.. Using a 555 would be a better long term option, but this is by far the easiest...

Try these...

http://www.uoguelph.ca/~antoon/circ/pulsetimer.html
http://www.uoguelph.ca/~antoon/gadgets/555/555.html
http://www.uoguelph.ca/~antoon/circ/clock1.htm

Don't worry about forgettin it.. I've done an ONC and HNC and a 4yr electronic apprenticeship with the MOD, seeing all sorts of ace things, BUT..... I still can't wire a transistor up without blowing it up... I much prefer logic..
And beside, I don't need to know ohm's law or 'DY' mathmatical expressions to drive a truck...

1. Take a wire from each of the coil terminals under the bonnet.

2. Run this wire the full length of the car with no protection at all.

3. Connect to another coil in the boot.

4. Run the plug lead and plug.

5. Start engine and wonder why the car runs like a bag of shit.

That was yesterday's hilarity

why?

i thought you run a cable to the magic black box via a switch, from box to coil, coil to plug????

u'll shag the relay pretty quick switching it that quickly. JUst build a 555 timer circuit, andwire the output to the base of a transisor.

You do.

I was referring to whether there's any unburnt fuel with your set up?

Although I have just re-read your post and see that you'll be going throttle bodies and decat..............

pop down to your local maplin shop (www.maplin.co.uk) and pick up one of them little timer circuits for about £3. comes with the 555 chip and all the gubbins needed.

solder it up in about 5 mins, whack it all in the boot, drill a few holes piss fart about with the spark plug and bobs your mothers brother.

sorted.

considered one for mine, itd look sweet as ive got a side exit!!

I agree how

I can think of much better things to do with my £25 than making a flame come out of my exhaust
