Why is there so many holes in sapphire inner wings?

Why is there so many holes in sapphire inner wings?
Might sound strange but surely they ain't all for drainage?
Just asking because when I finally get round to getting my engine bay painted, wondered if it would be sound to get rid of all the ones that ain't used.
What does anyone else think?

just finding my feet
just fill em and re drill what ya need ( fill with weld not p38 btw 
)
its due to different moddels use the same wings and so the multi drill em, same one the erst's and 1300 escorts

Seriously though as ginge said, its the same inner wing for all saffs, and different things was bolted there for each model of Sapphire
