My parents own an apartment in Spain, they pay a maintenance company to clean and look after it when they or other family members are not there. My Dad reckons its actually more expensive than you'd expect.

Can ask him specific questions if you want me to?

My parents have a house in torreveja in spain, they bought it nearly 3 years ago ready for retirement (my dad is still working now!!) I love the place and get over there 2 to 3 times a year, they have some friends who live nearby it was them who helped sort out buying the place as they have done it before, it only took 4 days to wrap the sale up I record for spain so I am told!!
A soliciter handles everying so as long as you pick a good one you will be fine.

IIRC you need a Spanish Solicitor whose English is good, not just spoken but written as well. You only need an English Solicitor near completion of the deal but they do charge a fair amount for their work.
You also need a Spanish Bank Account, your Spanish Solicitor can help with this but the Banks over there often try and rip you off so be careful.

As said, if you have any specific questions my Dad will be only too happy to answer what he can.

this is my parents place it's the one with the yellow canopys, my son is poking his head out above the bush!
3 years ago you could buy places like this for £65K now you will only get half the house for that!!!

this was taken in nov 03 when we had a long weekend for £30 each!!!

nice view from the patio,of the wife and son! the fountain also gives that nice water sound that makes the beer flow even better on a warm sunny night, roll on july when I am there for 2 weeks

as said you need a spanish bank account and 2 soliciters one either side of the water, my parents use the spanish cam bank and they post the statements to england rather than spain, my parents don't rent it out (they say it's there home and so don't want all and sundry using it and don't need the extra income from it)
renting out is a very good way of covering costs, but make sure there is a good suplly of golf courses nearby as thats where lots of the income comes from, brit golfers.
a house my parents size (2 bedrooms) would rent out for £150 a week most of the year round.

£125 gets you a sighting week in southern Spain.
flights and 4 star hotel included, you get to visit properties and meet the people you need to meet.
Next ones going in 2 weeks.

Or Turkey i can get you a weeks sighting for £99 inc flights and 4 star hotel.

If you want a mortgage for it your best of using a bank over here as some countries require upto a 60% deposit (taxed) for Johnny foreigners to buy in their country

Will Email you some info in the morning Tiff.

We only deal with properties in South West Mallorca, but all the property management companies charge similar prices so our info will give you an idea of what is involved.

Were your ears burning mate

It is something i have been thinking about for a while and i think i am going to look abit more into it. Would rather sink some money into something i can use and enjoy, then paying into a pension and seeing nothing for it.

serious post now lol

My parents thought about buying abroad, went and looked at a few, turkey cyprus.. the usual But then decided against the idea, as you pretty much have to go back to the same place all the time... If like me, new places are good Obviously, if you can afford to on hols and have this, then probably a good investment

Can see pos and neg about this

Fetiya (sp) is supposed to be the place over there now for properties, a couple of the partners have just bought a place over there.

Tiff, is it just for you for a holiday home or would you be looking to rent it out
