I had an exact same thing on another forum, somebody i know who knows about these things told me "your ISP is a bit slow updating their DNS server"....
He told me to wait a couple of days, and sure thing i was then able to get on....
might be the same thing...

An update from the RSOC BB for those of you affected:
HTH
From Wireless:
Hi All,
I have not been able to log onto the RSOC website or forum for about 2 weeks now. Investigation revealed what looked like a DNS issue, which I escalated to my ISP (PIPEX Xtreme ADSL Broadband). After seemingly getting nowhere I got my case escalated to someone in the know and their response was as follows (the names have been changed to protect the innocent ;o) )... :
"...Dear Wireless. Thank you for your email. After further investigation access to this website has been denied as it has been identified as being significantly involved in illegal activities. We regret the inconvenience that this causes. This action has been taken in the best interests of our own customers and the Internet at large. As soon as the problems with this website has been resolved normal access will be resumed..."
To which I replied... :
"...Hello PIPEX. Thank you for your mail. I am concerned and confused by your response to say the least...! I cannot believe that the Ford RS Owners Club is involved in any illegal activities. I expect that the site you are concerned with (the illegal one), along with the RS Owners Club website and possibly many others is being hosted via virtual servers from the same physical machine with the same IP address. By barring access to the IP address, you have in fact stopped access to any website being hosted on the server containing the illegal website. If this is the case please let me know.
As an aside, I managed the networks at a UK ISP for 5 years and came from the techie side of things. I was therefore involved in similar situations for my own company and the way we barred the affected sites without upsetting other virtually served sites at the same IP was to fudge DNS lookups by adding a manual false entry into our DNS tables. This means that good sites from the IP address (eg : RS Owners Club) remain accessible whilst the illegal sites are effectively blocked. Kind Regards, Wireless..."
To which they replied... :
"...Dear Wireless. Thank you for your email. I have spoken to our Network Services team who have confirmed that it is the IP address we are barring and not the website specifically. Regarding your comments about fudging the DNS lookups, they have informed me that the solution you suggest would not prevent IP connectivity (assuming that the IP was already known). In this instance we need to block IP connectivity. I apologies for the inconvenience, but in this instance there is nothing we can do..."
For those non techies of you out there the situation basically transpires as the following...:
Small websites such as the RSOC site that are hosted by commercial hosting companies rarely have a server (powerful computer) dedicated solely to hosting that one site. Usually there are many websites being hosted off the same server. Despite the server having many websites, it is perfectly feasible for it to operate using a single IP address. (An IP address is a unique address that allows us to find computers on the Internet). PIPEX (and now, I presume other ISP's) have simply blocked the IP address instead of the individual website. What this means is that every single website being hosted off that server including the one with "illegal activities", the RSOC website and potentially hundreds of others has been blocked. I did tell them the way to block just the affected one and this would have worked in 99% of cases, but they wouldn't listen. Bums.
I will continue to pester PIPEX to find out what the illegal site is and contact the RSOC hosting company and get them to remove it so we can get back on and get proper access again.
Cheers,
Roop

Basically, it would seem there's an 'illegal' site on the same server as the RSOC BB site, therefore a couple of ISP's have blocked the IP address to the server, not just blocked the 'illegal' site.....

cheers m8........i did understand what you said the first time as you put in non techie terms for me to understand.... would be interesting to find out the what illegal site is/doing?

Can people who are having trouble with AOL ring them on 0800 376 5432. I have just been on the phone with them (4th time) & they don't know of anyone else on AOL having a problem.
#37
We have also been in contact with the people who run the server who where very helpful (unlike AOL) & have done & got us to do various checks & they say it is deffinately not the website a problem. AOL call centre can't even get on the website, you would think that would tell them something. They kept trying to tell us it was the website, our computer, etc, etc.
