Default Electric PAS pump- FAO Christian/Gary@APT

Is there a fairly compact one available for a decent price? (I say compact as the Clio Diesel one we got is HUGE ) Off what car?
Can they be mounted anywhere?

Do Cossie PAS racks take up more room than a non PAS rack?

A pas rack take up a bit more room, but not much.
Most cars not an issue, on the car i`m building it is, also i don`t like power steering, as at speed it is too easy, with no feedback.
The pump will be large, as the motor will need to be very powerfull.

I understand Gary at APT has done some electric PAS pump conversions (on drift cars i think) using Saxo/106 PAS pumps, so maybe Christian can give some info...

Saxo pumps are fairly small. not much larger than a CVH starter motor if i recall.

Have you considered the electric type that bolt to the steering column?

Steve, of the 2 main cars that we converted to Electric PAS neither were that successful.

One was Gary's S13 and as I recall, Gary never really liked it. I seem to remember that the response was slow and it didn't really feel right.

I will have a word with Gary when I get a chance and let you know if its any different to that.

Oooooh those column mounted ones look good...

Can you run a PAS rack with the PAS disconected, or do you have to run a non-PAS rack?

Chris- Let me know what Gary says

When removing PAS, we make a simple link pipe for the PAS rack and that seems to work fine. The steering is still quite heavy though.

itsmeagain,

I've got a citroen saxo pas pump to go on my car...

It has got a remote resevoir, so you can put it in any convenient space. Not too sure if it has to be mounted horizontally though?

It's bigger than a cvh starter motor. But not buy much.

Imagine two toilet rolls stuck together. It's about that big.

Cost me 60 quid posted off ebay.

The Astra Mk4 one isn't too big either, though it defo needs to be mounted vertically and has an integral resevoir, which might make servicing a bit of a bitch.

How do remote ones work? purely just plumb it into the rack as per normal, or is a pressure regulator needed (ie its not built in to the pump)
