[quote="Rich_w"]So you lot would be happy to take an ambulance driver or a fireman away from his job, make him unemployed, put him in financial strife just because he was caught speeding on a fairly empty piece of motorway?
my m8 who drives for a living got banned albit for just 3mths and fined for doing 136mph on his R1 going up the motorway DIDN'T SEEM TO BOTHER THE COURT IN HIS CASE THAT HIS FAMILY WOULD HAVE NO MONEY COMING IN IN FACT THEY SAID "YOU DRIVE SO SHOULD HAVE KNOWN BETTER"
ps regarding calling ALL police as wnakers is WRONG but there are alot that ARE and THEY give the good ones a bad name

Rich W.
Can you give us another situation where an officer of the law could blatently disregard the law and be allowed to go unpunished.
Maybe he they could shoplift, to er.. test the security in the shop?
Perhaps they could drink drive to test the breathalyser
Maybe they could kill someone, just to get into the mindset of a murderer?
Of course this is all utter nonsense and would not be tollerated, so why should this?
By your logic, police marksmen should be alowed to shoot at whatever they like cos they're less likely to miss!
The whole affair is a fantastic own goal for the anti-speeding lobby and makes a complete farce of the "speed kills" bollocks that is regularly spouted.
He should be severely delt with, as should I if I were to be caught doing something so stupid.

As Mad Mac said the ambulance driver was banned.
Although I beleive an appeal lead to this being overturned. In that instance it shouldn't have even gone to court in the first place. And I don't feel this officers should have IF he'd been on a shout
As Phil said we have the speedkills bullshit rammed down our throats at every oppertunity and the officer walking away scott free only underlines how bad the bullshit really is

So basically what some of you guys are saying trained high speed persuit drivers shouldn't be allowed to speed on empty motorways when testing cars because we can't?
So by that logic armed police shouldn't be allowed to carry guns around because we can't?

Rich w, So let me get this straight, an "OFF DUTY" policeman shouldnt be banned for speeding because he fights crime while "ON DUTY", but a bricklayer should be banned for the same crime cause he only builds houses?
It shouldnt matter who you are, we all abide by the same rules. If an ambulance driver or fireman or copper is speeding while on duty and in an emergency then there should be no issue, but off duty they are just regular members of the community and should be treated as none.
It means little to me if there families lose there house cause they commited a crime, perhaps they should have thought of there actions before they decided to exceed to a speed that can result in a ban or imprisionment. Why should they not practice and hone there abilities while on official "work" business.

I though although the copper was off duty he was testing the car? Surely people can't expect them to wait untill they are on call before they drive the cars fast for the first time?

As for armed officers, I believe they are only allowed to carry them in public whilst dealing with a potentially armed situation. Like Police drivers can break the speed limit during a pursuit or on route to an emergency situation. Otherwise guns are limited to training camps and shooting ranges.
160mph on a public road has been deemed to be acceptable!?

Maybe he didn't notify the HQ for fear they'd reply with "Bollocks are you doing 160mph in a Vectra! Lets see you do it at Brunters!"

In Foxton, near Cambridge a few years ago, some police drivers who were on a "training exercise" came round a blind bend at 100+, into stationary traffic at temporary roadworks.
A nurse sitting at the lights in a Citroen AX was killed.
The instructor lost his job IIRC, but basically got away with it!
Double standards are nothing new!

At the end of the day he was a police man and should be setting an example for the masses and not abusing his position, which is what this all boils down to.

Total double standards, this country is SHITE.

just finding my feet
i think ya all fucking missing the point
if you enforce a low then you must actually abide and agree with it in all situations !!!!!!
how do you lot feel about a traffic warden sticking his badge number in the car to get free parking when shopping and then 5 other cars being done and towed away
also he got caught doing 160mph, a fellow copper must have repoted him, he must have felt theres a limit and theres taking the piss
160mph off duty theres no fooking excuse, 120 then fine, hes skilled and yeah theres a blind eye as he has more experience, but 160 how many times do traffic coppers drive and hold there car flat out at 160mph in pursuit and what the fuck are they chasing as they dotn chase bikes anymore and get helicopters for saftey reasons
i cant see the reason for it in anyway what so ever
also people who drive for a living will not go on the piss the night before work incase they get caught as its there job they loose
if a ambulace driver was doing 160mph in his vectra to :get to know his car" he would be but fucked quicker than small imagrant childen who got lost in the rainbird mansions grounds
there is no justified reason for the speed in anyway, fook what he does for a living, unless hes on a call or in proper training with saftey crews nearby incase he did lose it then he deserves to get what i would get in that situation, we all speed, when we get caught we have to accept it
when a mate of mine when i was a traffic warden got done for drink driving she wasnt much over the limit and she got a 2 year ban as enforcing a low she should lead by example
did you also know that traffic wardens can not use claws in the law to park illegally, they will win the appeal but will subsqently be sacked for doing whats not fair to the general public who they SERVE !!!!!
im sorry but any copper who drives at 90mph on his day off should not be allowed to nick a guy for doing the same thing , as theres no difference !!!!
its like allowing coppers to mug old ladies on there day off and then not being as harsh
what ya think happens if a coppper commits a real crime on his day off, say he robs a post office , he gets suspended instantly and then when hes convicted he loses his job, even he he gets a 100 hour comunity service wrap
my old man works for the corparation of london and has a job that deals with security, he had to suspend a inocent person who got accused of stealing wheels off another car as hios car was cloned EVEN THOUGH he new he was inocent as he had no choice, thats the rule, had he been convicted he would haev been sacked, that was nothing to do with his jobas he works on a securoty desk but it was a sign for lack of trust and so ya get sacked
i say at 160 he faces it like anyone else , 120 then slap him on the wrist but enfocre points to set a example to other coppers
this just shows why the public have no faith
i know it was a long post but my last thing for ya all to remember
A FELLOW COPPER FELT HIS SPEED WAS SOOO WRONG THAT HE REPOTED HIM !!!!!!!
that says it all for me personally

Sure they must be reasonably skilled drivers, but it took a traffic cop in a t5 five miles chasing my 1.3 escort estate with 59bhp and he didn't gain a yard till i decided to slow down
Oohh... bet they are all sooo fast

he must have been pushing the car or ya sure he wasnt on his lunch
i flew past a copper and he was facing the other way as i had no plate on em car and i was speeding and he fookign caught me quick time
im clapping as the copper was a proper cop and done his job fairly, i was speeding but he was facing the other way and so told me to slow down, i had no plate and i told him it must have fell off and even though he kenw i was talking bollocks he followed procedure and gave me a vehicle rect form to repair in 14 days
cant say fairer than that imo

I don't give a fuck whether he is the best driver in the world, the law states that the speed limit was 70 on that stretch of road and he broke it
Are they saying that police are above the law?
I don't have any sympathy for anyone who gets caught speeding, even myself if I get caught.

Why didnt he just get sent to a dis-used runway or something to get used to high speed in his car?
I think he should have been banned!

im not anti police or anything like it,but this is my opinion on this discussion,
firstly,he didnt just speed on motorways,he has also confessed to speeding on A roads aswell and not just at night.
secondly,IF he was on a shout then fair play i couldnt care less if he did 200mph,thats fine let them get there as fast as they can,it may just be the thug in the street putting the knife in my guts next time and i would appreciate any police man coming to my aid.
thirdly,i dont believe anyone is above the law.
my missus was awarded 3 point last year for doing 32 mph in a 30 zone if she can get done for a measly 2mph over the limit then ill be buggered if i will be happy about this outcome
rant over

I wonder what would have happened if he had an accident with a law abiding motorist whilst travelling that speed. You can almost guarantee that the citizen will be liable.
Also surely the Police should use test tracks for 'familiarising' themselves with their new cars. I've never seen Jenson Button going flat out up the M1
Its fookin ludicris he has got away with it.
