Ask on here, then ask on Scoobynet.

Will get a biased answer on each forum.

Wont comment on them exceot to say - common as muck.

Drove to Nottingham today (300 mile round trip for me)

Saw over 10 scoobys and not one cossie/rst.

Used to hate them, now really like them, more common, but much more useable and to the average person on the street, much better

Very capable car. Excellent handling. Very easy to drive quickly. Good car.

Wouldn't touch one with a 50ft bargepole though. What is known as a clit car...... Every cnut has one. Not cheap when they go pop either. Subaru owners seem to be a bit too much up their own arses for my liking. Like owning an Impreza is the only way to go fast. It's nice to slap them down a peg or two occasionally

I used to have one: modded too (big turbo, 3" de-kat zorst, K&N filter, Wallbro fuelpump, programmable management, proper Brembo brakes) and as much as I hate the look of them and even more the average person that drives them (WHY OH WHY DO THOSE SCOOBY DRIVERS NEED TO BE SUCH C*UNTS?!) it was great for daily driving!

Wouldn't say it handles well but decent enough and you can do some REALLY silly drifts with them!

Firstly anyone that says an Impreza is a piece of shit, clearly has no brain or is as thick as pig shit! (not that anyone is thick enough to actually say that of course) So asking the question he has on this forum, I dont see a problem with tbh.

Just to pick up on a few points:

Scoobys are not overly expensive to either mod or repair nowadays.

"shit from 3rd gear upwards" Really???? You best get along side mine in 3rd gear then!

"Wouldn't say it handles well" Personal opinion I suspect, but what are you comparing it with as my current setup outhandles ANY car I have ever owned (and that includes 3 cossies).

"buy a cosworth, hold the price as well, scooby's don't." Is this the only argument you boys have left now then! IMHO if you cant afford to write the cost off of these types of performance cars in the first place, you shouldnt even buy one in the first place.

Cossies are awesome cars and I love em.... but for the benefit of the originator of this thread, you have to sift through the shit first!

had a similar conversation with a mate bout 18 months ago, sold his 2ltr turbo nova for a newer more reliable motor, escort cossie or 2dr scooby

he stumped 12k for a 280bhp import STi impreza, was well disappointed he didnt get the cossie, but after having a few trips out in the scoob i was well impressed, will never look as good but was still a hell of a car i thought! in car adjustable diff from 50:50 locked to nigh on rear wheel drive, had that lovely flat 4 burble, pretty quick and nowhere near as common as the 4dr variety of chavpreza!

then he sold it a year later cos he couldnt afford to run it n lost 4 grand

escort cossie wouldve went for same money probs

Keep the series 1 its got that old school bad boy appeal and make it quicker

mr brannen i got £3300 for the cos and didnt pay a lot for the scoob as it was a unfinished project. i will get some recent pics up soon as it should be painted this week with some nice looking features and also i would say it performes a lot better than the saff

Had one but sold it in October as prefered to drive my RS propa Essex style

Found the drive much more fun in the RS than the Impreza in the end

Expensive as everyone says if it goes wrong

My advice keep the RS and spend the money on mods

My old scoobie

There is one benefit to them being so common. You can get a good car for not too much cash.
This is my mates MY93 WRX, adjustable suspension, front mount intercooler, Blitz DV, 17's, AP 4 pots etc. It's for sale for £5,000.

Another mate of mine obtained a near standard MY93 WRX for just £1500. A bit of care with some polish and it came up lovely. Failed the MOT on the rear fog not working and missing a couple of wheelnuts A hell of a lot of car though for £1500.

fagin , get real we are talkin std impreza's not yours you could say that about anycar if its modified, a std impreza IS shite from 3rd, i know i have been in plenty and even my brothers prodrive one he bought from new is unbelievably slow from 3rd, and no theres nowt wrong with it before you ask. im sure a 400bhp aint shit from 3rd but thats obvious we are talkin std cars here aint we bit like someone saying a std saff is shit slow and then madrod saying ''my saffs not '' kinda daft dont ya think?

wis an S plater STi (think it is, is in silver has the large wing and full front bumper etc with STi on the fog covers) looking in tip top condition worth.

Sorry have no pics but have been looking at it as some lads buy me own it and they will most likely sell it if I ask, they have bought of me in the past and visa versa.

Not a lot to go on and don't even know if it is a uk model or import but an idea of cost would be nice before I speak to them.

Plus, is there still a big issue with people car jacking/breaking into homes for them or is that more the later models they are heading for!!!

Also how do insurance companies look on them, what group are they etc.

Thanks

If you can stretch to it. Get either a Type R 2 door. A P1, A 22B or a RB5

Out of the box they are a very fast useable car. All performance cars are expensive to run and maintain.

Go for it. Well at least have a ride/drive in one

The Strut Brace,
Please ensure you have an argument before picking me up on facts mate!

A STANDARD JDM Type R is FAST
A STANDARD JDM STi is FAST
A STANDARD JDM WRX RA is FAST
A STANDARD JDM SPEC C is FAST
A STANDARD JDM S202 is FAST
A STANDARD JDM S203 is FAST

Would you like me to carry on this list with other STANDARD scoobs?

Since you never mentioned standard and no one else did, I am sorry for not being a mind reader!

Dont take this as me being a cossie hater and a scooby lover, but making a statement like you have is utter crap mate. If you compare a standard cossie with a standard scoob with the same power (say a Turbo 2000 and any cossie), you really think that the cossie would be faster (I know from experience as I have owned both)?? Considering they weigh about the same and the Scoob has a much more effecient box and diffs, this would make the scoob shit from 3rd and the cossie that much better??? Yeah right!!! Or are you saying that standard cossies are also just as shit from 3rd?? The standard 1/4 time for each of these models is in the same ball park, so I presume my last point is what you think then!

Lee,
But it makes sense though.

Oranoco,

If you have the better power to weight then it dont matter mate what it is you drive mate ......... unless as you say, you approach a corner!

Doctay,
I really dont understand people that say they are expensive..... do you mean to buy or to maintain? Sure they can be expensive to buy, but that is only the case if you cant afford it! To run...... no more expensive than a cossie nowadays. If your bottom end rumbles (which was a problem on some of the earlier ones), you can replace it with a brand new 2.5ltr bottom end for about £1500! Tuning bits are also as expensive/resonable as comparative cossie bits. You just have to know where to go as there are so many more people supplying and dealing in parts nowadays...... the market has now exploded and matured so prices have been slashed to what they used to be.
