Nope, I don't.
There's absolutely NO chance in 10 years I'm gonna be driving a fuckin sierra of all things!
I'm certainly not one of those guys - I'm 26, and my cossie is purely for track. There's absolutely no way I'd still be driving the old modified saff as a road car, considering it's such a terrible car for road use!

Like i say i have a Saff Cossie and all engine parts to complete the BIG BHP project
..Just looking at a new car because i rarely use the 3dr as i feel abit of a boy racer in it being 35 years old
The saff is less in your face if you see what i mean.At the mo my main transport is my p reg transit camper
Its time to advance to a proper car...the 3dr just aint me
Although its fooking lovely as a stage 1 to drive etc
Cant decide what though
Strut brace the 348 is a 90's era to me

Infact GurnE you are right...i am considering a 348 and getting dissed
Can imagine the insults if i bought one and posted it up on here now!
VERY nervous about prices for servicing and reliability parts costs etc though
..BUT that really applies to everything i am looking at though
Although the Jag XKR wouldnt be too bad except for depreciation.
BUT the 348 wont loose much money but i just gotta be prepared to not use it much in case it goes wrong!

In my opinion not too much around I would change for mine. Dont have to be young to enjoy a Ferrari, they are not for me im afraid a Volvo is far more suited to my lifestyle.
Im beggining to agree with others that Phil will never build his dream car.
Phil aint got that single-minded drive, he changes his dream every other week. Ten months after asking Mark to build a 200mph car it had been achieved & seven of those months was waiting for the crank.

Ferrari parts arent actually all that expensive, its just the labour (cam belt every few years and in most cases its an engine out job)
If you get one and maintain it yourself then its a relatively cheap car to own.
you have to balance that with the fact it will depreciate more though as people expect to see a ferrari specialist stamping the book.
but if you are planning on keeping it long term then thats not such an issue.
Personally i wouldnt bother with the 348 though, id got for a 355 if i could afford one (which sadly i cant really at the moment being realistic) thats still my favourite ferrari, i would have one over every other ferrari within reason (ie not instead of a dino etc but instead of anything more modern)
Doug is selling his ferrari 355 soon, buy that one, its a lovely example of the marque.

If you are going to buy a Ferrari....why would you get a 348 ??
If you want a 'modern' one....get a 355 (just not a 1995 model, they had valve guide/seal problems)
The 348 transmissions are very 'clunky' and heavy to shift and the 355 is way nicer all around
Chip
Ferrari parts are not expensive, they're OUTRAGEOUSLY EXPENSIVE. For example, a pair of distributor caps for a 308 will run you close to $1000 (USD) and an engine rebuild gasket set for certain V-12's are almost $2000...and that's just for the gaskets. Cylinder liners are $800/EACH the last time I checked

Matt its the entry level model of the modern look ferrari and in my budget
Been getting advice and the fact is apparently they have bottomed out price wise at around 30k so not too bad an investment for a car...plus i found we supply a dealer so i can get trade prices on parts
Fook i am so tempted.....dont know i i got the bottle though

Well if i proper one is purchased the engine is said to be bullet proof....cam belt around a grand to sort every 3 years...clutch apparently will last a maximum of 10000 miles at a cost of a grand fitted...servicing aint a problem as thats yearly and can get the book stamped even if they just inspect the work i carry out ie oil/pads/filter/plug changes etc etc which are no problem to do...Apparently the targa version roof leaks so will ruin the seats if used alot in the rain!
It comes down to how its been looked after previously.....still tempted just gotta think long and hard unless something else comes along of course in the same catorgory

Avoid the XKR - very quick yes and excellent for a launch start, but that's it as it handles like a Robin Reliant with a big block in it, so don't expect much fun out of it
Ferrari - yes definately. I have driven a couple as well as having owned a stage 3 powered cossie. Both completely satisfying to drive in different ways and both will destroy your wallet. Major problem with the Ferrari is...engine out....engine out....and lots of hours labour to do ANYTHING
I like your idea of self-servicing - ever worked on one?!
Don't bother with the 348, get the 355 - same money, better car
You can't beat the sound of a Ferrari in my opinion.
If you can afford one - crack on!

A 348 ?
- they are the biggest pile of wank out
- so; suits you sir
.
Whenever you see anyone in a 348, you know it is because they just wanted to buy into the Ferrari name and NOT for any other reason (as they are sheds and handle about as good as one).
Sometimes I wonder if you are a car enthusiast at all, or just someone that picks a vehicle he "thinks" will command respect from others
- twat

The only 355s I've heard of anywhere near 30k are LHD with starship mileage!
Still, if it's 30k to spend Phil, what about a Noble M12?

The trouble with you dear Michael is you only judge a car on its handling..fair enuff..but i thought you knew handling aint an issue to me as all cars handle to a point...and my point is i wont reach its limits ever......investment invest ment investment...the M3/911 etc etc etc may be better but in 10 years time the value would have dropped dramatically whereas i will have lost hardly anything...who is the wisest now?

If you want to play the smart investor you shouldn't buy a car full stop ![Wink](https://passionford.com/forum/images/smilies/icon_wink.gif)
The 348 is a poor man's Ferrari I reckon.... To help you to decide please tell me WHAT YOU LIKE about the 348. No crap about depreciation and so on: just the car....
Put it this way: if the badge had been Fiat and the color green for example would the car still be worth 30 K to you and why?

Ask your local dealer how much a major service goes for before plunking down the coin. I'd be surprised if you can even get a belt service (minor) for less than 2k UKP
If you want a Ferrari as an investment, avoid anything after about 1965 except F40, F50, F60 or you may be disappointed.
I don't think that the 348 market has bottomed out yet, but that is just a personal opinion.
The quality on 'modern' F cars was not all that great until the 355s and still is about on par with the crap we turn out on our side of the pond. Ferrari still buy from the lowest bidder suppliers for components, so they get what they are paying for, but YOU don't.
