Default Best Engine to use for Transplant?

I need to know what would be the best engine to use for a transplant into a MkVI Escort 1.8 Si Cabrio. It's the 130bhp model but is sooooooo slow and needs a major power hike, well it needs more torque anyways!

Needs to be 'reasonalbly' reliable and not cost an arm and a leg. Preferably turbo but not essential. Was thinking Fiesta RST?

Any suggestions would be most welcome and how much work involved with each? (It's not for me, just finding out for someone!)

Cheers!

Even if you slapped a 2 litre zetec on Weber Alpha, it still isn't going to be very fast.

Does it not need to be kept EFi? I know a ERST engine would be cheapest, but how easy a job would it be? Anyone done this before?

Hello

You dont need to keep it EFI you could go MFI (like ERST) but you would need the whole engine loom and ecu. It has been done before (a few times i recall) but there are a few things you need to think about. If using a CVH Turbo engine either MFI or EFI you will need the engine looms and ecu's.

Also off the top of my head what you going to do about the steering? I think the MkVI Escort had power steering but the CVH Turbo engine doesnt have power steering so either need manual steering rack or some sort of "conversion" to power the steering pumps off the engine.

A 2.0l 16v mondeo/focus engine would be a torque upgrade and would be cheapish option but wont be much more powerful than the 130bhp current engine.

I think any engine swap is going to be hassle tho
