Drivers job to check the car is fully road legal before taking it on the road. Just bad luck that this one obviously wasn't checked for rent appart from by the local feds!

I don't know if you have such a thing as garage insurance over there but over here if you have garage insurance you can purchase a special green number plate that you take with you when you drive customers cars and it covers you for tax on that vehicle even if it isn't. you mite want to look into that stu for the future. not trying to have a go just hope it help's

I dont think the coppers were at fualt at all, im glad they are stopping people untaxed,
I think the customer shouldnt have driven his car there untaxed though, and i guess its also slightly Stu's fault for not checking, shame really though that you cant as a tuner just make the assumption the cars you are handed are legal, now he will have to check:
tyres / tax / mot
on every car he takes out i guess?

As said already, its technically my fault fro not checking and driving the thing.
We normally check vehicles but on this occasion its a pretty nice cossy with new paint job, nice new big wheels n tyres, shiny uinderbonnet etc, all suggesting the owner likes to spend his cash on it, so it didnt even occur to me to check the damn thing!! Some cars teh first thing you do is check..roflol
Naturally its going on his bill and the police let me bring the ecu back here with me as security after i explained the score.
I dont blame the police one bit for the record, im glad they are hounding these untaxed cars out, just wounded i was driving teh damned thing!

yeah i was gonna say stu dont take out untaxed, non mot cars !!!
i recon stus more pissed at the walk home
aint the keys good enough as a imobiliser or some of the bling and ebayed it
dont think stu needs trade plates as all cars are driven to him and he states they gotta be road legal
just shite luck
good thing there not gonna endorse ya though , the fine can go under "extras" on the bill
does that mean his cars not welcome anymore too
oh and does he use the forum for a name and shame
if he thought the mapping bill was pricey wait for the fine/back tax and clamping fee on top of the taxi bill and hes cars still not done
all that for 88quid , which reminds me i better get to the post office as my tax ran last month too , but then ive never left the house

I can just about imagine the discussion when the customer comes back later.
Customer: "So Stu, how much do I owe you ?"
Stu: "Er, 70 quid"
Customer: "Bargain, that's a cheap live map"
Stu: "Errrrmmm "
Customer: "Where's the car"
Stu: "Errrrrmmm , here's a number for a local taxi "

Bummer mate. Had it myself though in Rachels car when I was stopped.
PC: Is this your car?
Me: No it's my girlfriends.
PC: What's your name etc?
Me: Steve etc
PC: The cars not registered in your name!
Me: I told YOU that!
The copper then went on to tell me my white dials were illegal the wheels were too big (15's) and that my sub box wasn't secured (grabbing hold of it to find I'd used tow bar bolts to secure it in place and it was going nowhere fast )
