Starter Motor is Stuck on
any ideas? its on a 1.6 CVH. as soon as the battery is connected the starter spins. it will start the engine, and it'll still be spinning around.
i'm thinking the solinoid is stuck. if so, can it be unstuck? or maybe a bad earth?
cheers, Tom.

can it be connected up wrong? there was smoke coming from the wires and the plastic coating was starting to melt.
no damage has been done as of yet. there are only a couple of wires to connect, i'm sure they only go on one way.

it just started and ran fine just now without sticking. one time i started it, it made a squeel sound which i thing came from the solinoid after i turned it off.
somethings not right, i'm thinking earth straps but i could be well off.

With the ignition on and the car out of gear. Connect a fused 30 amp cable to the battery positive and touch the other end on the small terminal on the starter motor. If the solenoid is fooked you will get the same symtoms, if not then its probably your ignition switch or ignition relay.

Another check you can do is get a multimeter and switch it to DC volts.
Check the POSITIVE WIRING SIDE by connecting the multimeter between the positive on the battery and the thick braided cable on the starter. Get an assistant to crank the engine for a few seconds. Reading should be no more than 0.5 volts.
Check the NEGATIVE WIRING SIDE by connecting the multimeter between the negative on the battery and the starter motor body. Get an assistant to crank the engine for a few seconds. Reading should be no more than 0.5 volts.
Hope this helps!
