I am not a Jag man but i can tell you that they are not all leathered up & yes they did make manuals but not very many, in general most are auto.
If you are going to get a Jag, make sure its got leather & is auto as it will be hard to sell otherwise.
Simon.

the manuals were mainlly 2.9 engines
Most of the autos were 3.2 3.6 4.0
Most of then were leatherd up well i say leathered but most of the seat was really a plastic material called ambla
There were a few cloth ones which i thought was better having driven virtualy every model that came off the production line
DONT WHATEVER YOU DO IS BUY A 2.9
The trouble we had with that engine was unbelivable
and the bodges that took place to try and cure it

A guy I know has a 2.9 Sovereign on an F reg.
Apparently quite rare.
Full leather, auto, loads of electrics (none of which work!!)
To be honest - the engine is the only part that hasn't given any trouble!!!
My ex boss had a basic 2.9 with cloth upholstery on a G reg. That was no problem mechanically - but cos it wasn't leather he had a hard job to sell it.
I looked at a few and decided not to risk it. You might get lucky and get a good one.. or it could pull the plug on your bank balance almost immediatley!!
Basically buy the newest jag you can afford regardless of spec seems to be the safest option!

Next question, if they are shite, why keeping buying them to end up owning loads?
Or are you a car trader or something?
Only one ive driven much is the supercharged V8 (daimler super v8, 1998), very nice motor to drive but quite shockingly badly made really and let down by stuff like mondeo door handles etc IMHO

The 3.6 was also available in manual, and also found in the XJS as well as the XJ6. As already indicated the 2.9 was a heap of dogs poo and they 'ALL' suffer electrical and computer failures.
Some come with cloth and no alloys either, but these tended to be the cheaper ones and as such, not as good.
3.6 was the most popular and the 90's ones were facelifted around '92 I think with different front and back end and choice of alloys. If you are looking at buying one, then go for a post '90 model as a lot of the early problems were ironed out, plus they look a hell of a lot better!
Lots of them availble and they vary enormously in price so you have stacks to choose from. Just make sure you have the history and check for rattle on the timing chain.
