sounds like an oil ring gone on one of the pistons, OR they are all very worn

fookin hell that means your putting about £30 quids worth of oil in everytime you fill up (assuming you buy good oil)
the first cossie in the worl to use more oil than petrol!
you must have a leak somewhere or somethign is very fooked..
ie rings or turbo but i would of thought you may have noticed 5 liutres of oil pouring out of your exhaust at some point during the 150 miles!

No bad smoke noticed, turbo is quite new, head came off recently (due to snapping cambelt) and pistons and bores were apparently okay...

Though I notice it's not a great deal of oil from Max-Min, it's deffo less than a litre, more like half a litre from Max-min - this sound right?? It's a 91 4b BTW.

Yeah I know, it's weird. Worse still is the oil light doesn't work so I keep _nearly_ running it dry

Today I was driving along thinking it sounded a bit tappety, then suddenly remembered what this usually means, and yep I checked and it's about 1/4 inch below Min doh

says in the sierra book you get with the car,

the cosworth engine can use a litre of oil in 640 miles.
(i guess that means if your driving like a bastard!)

GRAVEDIGGER:

yeah 1 litre per 600 miles is max.

it should be exactly a litre from max to min.

dont let it drop below even in the slightest.

what oil do you use?

Was told by a Cosworth mechanic not to bother filling to the max mark
Keep it to just above the minimum mark, does'nt burn as much then
