i drove my mates R33 yesterday. Its a 2.5 single turbo, and is running 280hp, but it felt slow cos they are such a heavy car. Sounds the absolute bollox though. think he is getting it chipped to 380 soon. but i was very impressed how it all worked. It has VVT, and after 4.5k or so, it gives you a big kick in the back, and still spins the wheels in 2nd. i was pretty inpressed TBH.

I've been in two, a R33 and R34 GTR but wasn't permitted to drive either I agree, very impressive.
Just looking for comments from anyone with any experience with/of them.

I'm not looking for mega BHP, I just want something more up to date, better looking and a lot newer than another RS. Having had four RST's and a cossie i'm looking for something different.
I've looked at the Supra as well, but not making any decisions as yet

Have driven a few of them, took one for a test drive on Saturday and one on Thursday. One a GTST and the other a non turbo R33. Most of my mates here have them, GTT's, GTST's and GTR's.
I am hoping to pick an R33 GTST up this week when my car goes. Was quite interested to see how they pulled compared to my old cossie. Most of them are modifed here so not sure of BHP but the GTST felt on par with my stage 1 cossie. The R34 GTR my mate has is pushing 400bhp and the R33 GTR another has just got the top KW trophy at a car show this weekend for about 620KW on the dyno.
Insurance wise they are not bad here either as they are the car of choice for a fair few 18-30 year olds.
Having a look at another GTST on Tuesday but there are so many of all varieties here, hundreds of them.
HTH a bit and if you need to know anything else, PM me as I dont get on here everyday

Thanks for the input peeps
saff_cossie - I must admit, the last couple of times I was in Oz, the Skyline ratio was pretty much that of the Scooby one here, although I had an XR8 as a hire car last time; no Skyline available!

I prefered the Commodore SS at the time but it wasn't available to hire, whereas the XR6 and XR8 were readily available.
Glad to hear there are plenty of Skylines available and for good money as I shall want one when I end up there in a couple of years time! Will be over for a visit at the end of this year so will keep my eyes open

I used to have an R33 GTR V-Spec in midnight purple!
she was a beautiful car that you could drive for hours and hours and hours! But very predictable...... witht he self correctional steering... it kinda took all the fun away from driving it properly!
Maybe go with the GTS ( rear wheel drive ) youll have more fun than with the GTR (4WD)
But... My esco cos is way more fun than the skyine... ok not as reliable.... but hell.... wayyyyyyyyyyyyy more fun!
Heres sammy!

Great plate
Great cars. Only downside is horrific thirst for fuel at all times! Other than that a real pleasure in everyway

I had an R32 GTR, awesome car!
Perfect driving position, seat, pedals, steering wheel, gear stick and arm rest all just fit in place perfectly.
Mine was running stage 1 mods (exhaust inc decat, hks filters, impul ecu etc) and was very nice. Actually has a useable 1st gear (ie nice and long). Fast car, very smooth and revved like a beauty.
Do it, you won't regret it

As a fun road car is take a GTS the GTR is just too good, you have to push tem at silly speeds round bends to feel like you are doing anything.
Well made cars though, the reuptation they have is deserved IMHO

Had a 480bhp gtr, 500bhp r32gtst and a 400 bhp r32gtr all in the last year and yeh they are great cars but ive come back to 3dr cossies cos the bits are readily available, you can get the work done all over the place and to me they are more fun. Time ive finished the car im building now itll be much more fun than any of the 3 skylines ive had

Petrol even in this high price era here is still just over a $1 so about 40p a litre for unleaded, slightly more for Premium. Even my massively over fueling cossie was cheapish to fill!
I dont recognise either of those cars and they look like NSW plates.

Don't you guys turn my thread into an arguement - we'll have none of this and a bit more of this
Well I'm glad the GTS is getting a good review as this is within budget range

With the GTS-T, you can go just as fast with less power than the GT-R models. 200 Kg weight difference and less transmission losses with just RWD. I've raced both a GT-R and a GTS-T R33's and the "gay" version still holds it own standard, modded should surprise many performance cars.
If your power goals are reasonable, then that RB26DETT and the GT-R badge doesn't really matter. In the real world, all the badge will do is impress street-chavs like the strut brace.

Anh- Ever heard of wheelspin?
My mates 500bhp GTST lights em up in 3rd in the dry even though its got drag diff and suspension and some decent tyres...
thats not exactly the way to accelerate fast...
4wd can be very very handy.
And the engine is more capable, both have huge huge potential, but less mods for more power with GTRs, esp upto 600bhp (then it sort of evens out)

Yes yes the GT-R models can do this better and it can do that better, and so it should considering it costs much more money.
But then if you're making realistic levels of power, then wheel spin isn't going to happen too often, and if you're not going to push the car to its handling limits every weekend then I'm sure a GTS-T will do.

What you talking realistic? Both cars can be happily tuned to 600bhp on std internals but only 1 will be miles away in the distance, the other will be smoking the tyres in 4th gear!
Most people "want" around 500bhp, and like said, that means 3rd gear wheelspin even on a good setup.
They both good cars, but the GTR has much more of an advantage than you make out, your saying it like they a waste of cash and best off with a GTST.
Im sure you have a lot of experience with them yea?

Why are you talking about "most people"? In fact, I'm not even sure how much power the guy who made this thread is looking for, this is why I speculated.
An extra 9-15k just for 4WD and .1 litre of displacement just seems excessive.

Jesus mate, get a clue
They both good cars, but you clearly have no idea and are just doing your damndest to make GTSTs look just as good as GTRs. Both good cars but FAR more different than your making out
Either blinkered or havent a clue. Id reply in more detail but at mo im at work WRITING THE TECH STUFF FOR A JAPANESE CAR MAGAZINE to pay for my SKYLINE GTR, while also finding out a few bits and bobs for my mates 600ATW RB30 ENGINED RWD S13...
So sorry if i not wrote in more detail than some goon with a lightly modded old supra
If it was to just do a top speed infact you might be best off with a GTST base car
