Cars Dead :(
I've just got back from towing my car home heres what happened , i've had a little oil leak for about a week, then i've been out in it tonight giving the car a bit of death and as i was on my way home i over took a car and there was shed loads of smoke coming from the rear so i pulled over asap and turned the ignition off and had a look but couldnt see anything wrong so i moved the car forward and there it was all of my engine all poured all over the lay by lol. it looks like its come straight from the sump i'm not very mechanically minded by the way
does anyone else have any ideas of whats gone wrong ? the cars a 1990 xr2i aswel

Difficult to say really!
Could have broken the sump or the sump plug might have unscrewed and fallen out (on my old Cossie that very nearly happened! I had a suspision that the thread was knackered when I did the plug up, but had to do a 200 mile motorway trip. When I got back I double checked it and the plug was half way out Talk about lucky!!). If the car started up ok and you didn't run it for long with the oil light on it might be ok and not too serious.

very lucky mate, the car didn't cut out or anything like that i turned it off and then moved it about 30 seconds later and the oil light had come on by then so i moved it forward about 10 yards but it hasnt been started since because it lost too much oil even to drive it home so i had to get the tow rope out again
well there is one lol he specialises in xr and rs i think, the guy that owns it has got a white saff cossie with his name in the back windows like in rally cars
