How many miles has it done? Sounds like the pump is wearing out to me, hence it only makes pressure when it is revved up a bit.

Sounds like oil pressure switch failure to me - get a new one and see if the problem's gone away

Same thing happened to me recently - CVH engine as well.

Cheers,

Andy

I had a similar prob to that once on a Fiesta and it turned out to be a small piece of crap which was stuck over the hole on the front of the pressure switch, obviousy effecting the operation of the switch. I simply whiped it away and screwed the switch back in, prob disappeared.

First thing is change the oil!!!...Normally cures it....if not worn big ends...seeing its a MK4 LOL..so many miles no doubt...but dont be alarmed it dont mean its gonna give up...could go on for yonks before any knocking sounds...aslong as the light is only on at tickover and goes out when revving that is!

HI,

Could be switch,or motor just worn, sump pickup slightly clogged up,
doesent take much pressure to put light out, but what is your IDLE SPEED,
if its ticking over to low it wont go out till rev rise?

Stick a mechanical oil pressure gauge on it and you'll know if your pressure's OK or not
Factory switches/sender units on any car tend to fail fairly regularly.
