Default TO POLISH or TO WAX...

what is best to polish or to wax ? what does each one do exactly ?

i heard polish just moves the paint around... does that mean its not good for keep off the rain etc... ?

any special techniques, like "wax on wax off" ?

cheers in advance

Polishing usually involves removing oxidisation (and therefore some paint inevitably), whereas waxing is usually done as a final step to seal in the freshly restored/cleaned paintwork.

Proper way to keep a car clean is to wash the car, renovate the paint if needed (using mild products is best such as wax wizard renovator, clay bar etc.), once the car's clean, use a high content wax product to seal the paintwork. You should then only have to wash it and chamois it dry to maintain the appearance.

Garage jet & car washes tend to strip off the wax, so best to use a complementary (to the wax) shampoo when cleaning the car.

polishing by hand is ok, but what about getting a mop, is it worth getting one and can you buy them for a reasonable price ?

Dont use wet and dry you will scuff the laqure and may even burst through and damage the paint.

1500/2000 3M micro fine is what i use ALL FOOKIN DAY!!!!

It just lightley takes off a layer of paint.. I use it to flat bits of shit out,or try and get "orange peel" paint looking better...

But on solid colours (ie non metalics) if you aint got a mop, you aint got a hope!!! You will need to buff it up with either G3 or some kind of cutting paiste... 3M trizact is AWESOME stuff, but cost a BOMB!!!!

bit of panel wipe, or get ya thumb on it,abd BURN BABY BURN!!!!!

Pete..
