What are people using to restore their aluminium parts on engines etc. Need to paint the gearbox bell housing and oil pump. Happy to pay for the £25 price tag per tin if is the right stuff for the job or are people just using a standard halfords type product?
I used a grey etch primer, followed by a VHT aluminium silver Aerosol and then lacquered with a Matt lacquer on my CVH gearbox. Painted all the bolts either Ford Wedgwood blue if 8.8 spec bolts or a graphite grey for all other bolts, again with a satin lacquer on them.
I’ve recently been doing a fair bit and screwfix degreaser to clean the part, wash off with water, thoroughly dry and then a proper brass brush to clean up is getting me the best results, it’s long though, a soda blaster is what you really want and I may look into one for the future.
