Default Homologation road rally Yaris GR

I know it’s a Yaris but take a look
at this thing. Tempted to order one as a daily

275 Bhp (ad says 257 but read 275 elsewhere). Proper 4wd, six speed manual and clever suspension under wide arches

From the ad:This range-topping Yaris is kitted out with a new 1.6-litre turbocharged three-cylinder engine that produces 257bhp. That’s more than twice the output of the most powerful mainstream Yaris engine, the 1.5 VVT-i, and enough oomph for it to complete the 0-62mph dash in 5.5sec, outpacing the Fiesta ST by a clear second.

A six-speed manual gearbox is standard, along with a sophisticated new suspension system and an advanced four-wheel drive setup. The latter has three different modes to suit the driving conditions: Normal mode splits the power balance 60:40 between the front and rear wheels, Sport mode shifts the majority of the power to the rear wheels, and Track mode distributes the power equally between the front and rear wheels. The power split in all modes is automatically adjusted in response to the way the car is driven and the road conditions.

Yeah it is quite pricey but I think it could be a good fun car.

i recently drove the Citroen C1 that I got for the mother in law and a low powered light and simple car is quite refreshing.

you reckon there is much more scope for tuning? 275bhp is already quite a lot on a 1.5 engine 🥴

Take 25% off a YB will tell you lol. Going inside the engine will always give you what you want it’s just how costly stuff and reliable stops the amount of power quest.

I reckon this is a test bed for a new Toyota WRC rally car and you can bet Toyota are already looking at getting a lot more power out of it in the future.

4wd, trick suspension and a small punchy turbo motor are all cool in a little hatch with flared arches and nice alloys but 30k is big money. Definitely something different and more interesting than a golf r or fiesta st etc.

If it's Ł30k, that's a bloody bargain. A Focus ST is that now, so is a Golf GTI. I think it will probably end up being quite expensive, especially with the track pack specified.

Even so, it looks a great car and something pretty unique in the market.

I wonder if they will do lease deals like the Golf R?

Chances are though I would want to remap it to around 300 bhp to make it really fun and spank it around a few circuits too.

Good to see there’s road cars that somewhat resemble rally cars but imo it’s too
expensive

Very true Glenn. I know if I get one people will ask "you bought a what?"

People asked if my business was in trouble when I had a Smart Brabus.

I couldn't give a toss really, a bloke at school pick up tries to tease me about my Twizy but it is just water off a ducks back.

people are just retarded though, is if you went to school in a nice car they’d be jealous and all your customers would think your charging to much 🤦🏻‍♂️

Not singling you out, but seen a few people saying Ł30k is too much. How much do people think it should be?

A Fiesta ST3 is just under Ł24k now. A Focus ST is from Ł29.5k. You could argue that this is effectively a Fiesta ST with wide arches and 4WD, so an extra Ł6k doesn't seem too bad for me. Factor in the finance and CarWow type deals, and it might be even cheaper if it's a mass-produced model.

I can relate to what you're saying mate, I've had it a few times recently with why am I driving an Audi or a Nissan, why don't I buy a badge, my answer is always the same "I don't fucking want one, mind your business"

Opinions are like arseholes pal, everyone's got one and they all full of shit lol

GR order book about to open.

Ł29,999 for the base car and then around Ł4k for the track pack which is the Torsen diffs, suspension, wheels and red brakes (not sure why red brakes make it a track car - probably so people notice?) The only other costs, I think, are the different paint finishes which are quite pricey for just colours.

Sorely tempted but not sure if I should wait to see if they drop in price second hand.

@ Mark Shead - do you think these will be mapable or need standalone ECU?

Standard power to weight is the same as an RS3

I would be hoping a straight map rather than ecu swap.
trying to work out what to do as just over the max price that I had in mind as I couldn’t go for the budget spec lol.
they are due Jan 21 from the dealer I am talking to.

I'm pleasantly surprised by the price. I was expecting closer to Ł40k with the track pack on them, so not too bad at all. Hopefully it will be a success and prompt some other manufacturers to try something similar.

This has the ingredients for a fun little car, I've never been interested in buying a new car until I heard about this. I've expressed my interest with Toyota but not heard anything about price or release date.

@caddyshack where did you find the info on pricing?

I expressed interest early and had some recent emails and then followed threads on pistonheads etc. People have been invited to put down 1000 deposit based on that cost.

the link I followed in the email showed the pricing and options

Here is the pricing:

https://www.toyota.co.uk/world-of-to...gr-yaris/specs

from 29,995 with only options being comfort which comes standard with track pack and then the paint colours. I don’t think you can pay more than 35k

I like the black ones and the red ones. Those would be my choice.

My biggest problem is that I do not want to give up any of my cars, need to convince the wife that we don’t need the mini convertible.

its mad the amount of power being squeezed out of little engines nowadays compared to just a few years ago !
a little car with reasonable power can be just as much or even more fun than something bigger and more powerful. my old A210 evolution A class merc was a great little car to throw about on country roads....would stick to the road and turn in like a gokart...
