Default Quick Tyre size Question

I need 2 rear tyres for my 3dr Cosworth to get it through an MOT, i am currently very short of money and have been offerd 2 pirreli P Zero tyres for not a lot.
At the moment i have 205/40/17 on the back, but these tyres are 205/50/17, could anyone tell me if these will fit OK.
Cheers For any help

Might be better leaving the MOT until you can sort the new tyres otherwise you'll be paying 2 lots of fitting costs. Will only cost you more long term

I suspect that just going for the mot with those on will damage your bodykit!

Why's that mate? Is it that close on the back?

Are these not just 1cm larger diameter than he already has?

205/40/17 = 596mm diameter
205/50/17 = 637mm diameter

The 40 or 50 is a percentage of the width not just another 1cm!

Thanks Spadge, I knew it was a percentage, I had come up with just over a cm larger sidewall, but forgot to double it
