It is achievable.. You can use the black top lifters or aftermarket ones from likes of Arrow etc these will have shims under the bucket and are safer for high revs
The Black top head is slightly better flowing and will have solids as standard, they also have a better choice of cams if you want to go really wild

Why would you change something that clearly doesn't need fixing?
the silvertop and blacktop are very similar and are proven to both flow very similar figures in both standard form and big valve form , they say the blacktop has a better port design in terms of shape.
paul Johnson zetec turbo blacktop actually runs the 32mm oversized Vauxhall ecotec hydraulic followers instead of the solid lifters.
cheers paul

Been considering buying new ones from Burton but several people tell me solid lifters would be better for high revs etc.
My head's in great condition otherwise hence considering converting them.
Still open to suggestions tho, Stu had mentioned that the hydraulic followers won't like the stiffer valve springs?

Take them out measure them , inspect them and make sure there is no wear on the follower or can lobes. Have you rebuilt the engine or is it old?
if rebuild then the followers even if used should be submerged in fresh oil overnight rotating the follower so it fills full with oil, even thou you pressurise a new engine by cranking it over which should pump oil into the followers sometimes it doesn't and they can be noisy.
whats the spec of the engine and what are your goals with the engine.

Bottom end was from Matt Hibberts MK3 Zetec Turbo with jenvey inlet etc.
Lee also supplied the standard head with uprated valve springs.
I then sent it off to be checked over and it got all new shells and rings.
Current spec -
2.0 silvertop zetec turbo with 86mm JE forged pistons and Eagle steel conrods.
Standard 2.0 mondeo zetec head bar a skim and Devil Developments uprated valve springs.
Front mount intercooler
JR cone filter
2wd Cossie T3 with 360 bearing
-31 actuator
Devil Developments tubular stainless manifold
2.5" stainless exhaust
Cossie fuel pump and external swirl pot
Siemens Deka 60lb injectors
OFAM management
Mapped by MSD at 8 psi 218bhp at flywheel
Plan was to put 21psi through it, was aiming for around 300-350bhp but MSD found that injectors only have 11 volts at them, fuel pressure started to drop when upping the boost any further - they think there's a restriction somewhere that needs looked at and the intake pipe to turbo has a restrictive elbow adapter used.
Planning on sorting these issues for next summer and upping the boost.
Its possible the followers have sat with no oil in them for a long time, car has sat off the road for years.
Sounds like I need to do as you suggest, strip out and check/soak in oil.
