so just over 3.5mm of pad used in nearly 12 years

but the brake fluid was filthy so i'm glad i did a flush through of that

the question though is how do i clean out the one way brake valve thing i used? just push water through it until it's clean or is there another way? thanks

Do you mean the brake bleeder? If so I just leave the remnants of fluid in there after disposal of the old
stuff.

For Ł4 ifi rather not let it rot if I need to use it again in a few weeks and then have to run to the shops to get a replacement

Clean it with some brake cleaner ? Or just blow through it.
