Default Overheating

Hey folks,
Firstly, sorry for the really long post.
Secondly, I just wanna say my car is in the garage to get fixed at the moment. The reason I am posting this is because I like to understand things for myself regardless if whether someone else is fixing it for me or not.
Here what has been happening with my 2008 Mk6 1.6 TDCI Fiesta....
My car was losing a wee bit of coolant. Nothing major, I just topped it up every couple of weeks and everything seemed fine. The coolant level never dropped too low and it was booked to see a mechanic but before I got a chance take it this happened....
I had been driving my car at a steady 50-60 mph on a coldish morning for about 20 mins. I pulled out to overtake and just afterwards I noticed a loss of power. About 10 seconds later the dash started beeping saying the engine was overheating and the temp gauge was in the red so I pulled over. There was no steam, there was still plenty of coolant and the radiator fan was on. After the engine cooled I tried driving again but after a couple of mins the temp gauge started rising again so I had to stop again. By now I was in a 30 mph zone and the everything was fine. I took it to a garage but the mechanic couldn't get the temp gauge to go above normal and he said I should be fine to drive. He did suggest starting with a new thermostat as it could be sticky/faulty or that it could be a blockage but that it wouldn't need to be done there and then.
The drive home was fine until about 20 mins after being at a steady 50-60mph again when the temp gauge started to rise. I pulled over, again no steam, but this time I was dumping coolant onto the road. The AA came out and found a clip missing on one of the hoses, cable tied it, filled the coolant (well, water) and sent me on my merry way.
I arranged to get the car to my mechanic the next day but on the drive there the heat comming through the blowers was super hot, like really super hot! If I tried switching the blowers off or if I drove over 50mph the temp gauge started rising.
If it was a blockage in the coolant system would I be getting really hot air into the cab thought he blowers? From what I have read online, a blockage would mean no hot air into the cab.
Would I get hot into the cab if the thermostat was stuck? (I'm assuming they stick closed???)
Would a leak in the coolant system alone cause the symptoms I've described?
There is no sign of oil in the coolant or coolant in the oil. The water pump was replaced a few months ago when the timing belt was done.
Hope someone can help explain things to me!
Thanks, steph.

Sounds quite odd. I was going to say that it sounded like a slow or dead water pump but that would then not have the hot air and would overheat more I would have thought unless there is just slight water movement. I think that the mechanic will find it and I would not be surprised if it is just the water pump and / or maybe something that controls the speed. On my TT I have the normal water pump running off the engine and then another extra electric pump that is electronically controlled.

Good Luck

Default Fiesta mk8 overheating

Hi all. I have a fiesta mk8. 1.0l.
today I got the overheating warning and limp mode. Needle went to max. May I ask. May this be an issue with air condition compressor? I was going around 140kmh on an ascending road and it went into limp mode. I believe once I switched off the air con it fell almost to normal. Coolant is at max. Both coolant tubes were at normal temp and coolant was flowing when I popped the hood. I haven’t yet put with a diagnostic tool but will do some test on an uphill with both air con on and off. Any input will be appreciated as this is first time that this has happened. The car is a 2018 model with 46000 KM and well serviced.
