Hi lads I'm thinking of selling my Supra diff with a modded beam . The diff bolts straght into the beam no fitting kit needed .
The MT diff cover that has got holes in it so it can run a oil cooler setup if you wont to . and it has got the fittings on the output shafts to bolt the cosworth inner CV joints to . It's a 3.9 with a uprated spring inside that makes the lad work a lot better .
I'm trying to find out wot this is worth as at the mo I run it on my focus with a Skyline gearbox and I'm looking at changing the diff set for next year . Wots your forts lads
Thier hard to find now mate the 3.9 when I got mine it was 250 for diff 450 for rebuild with updated weir kit then you've got your beam on top the diffs did go up after I got mine gotta be around a bag mate
Agree with smiley, got to be worth Ł1000 or More all in.
Mark was telling me a while back thatif he was to build a new spec it would be using something like a modern corvettes mustang alloy diff. Very strong, plentiful in US and light.
I don’t think there is another option really other than the 9inch but that’s big money or the jag option but how easy that is to find I don’t know. The supra is tried and tested and the leg work has been done. If you have torque and grip it’s a no brainier really as there is nothing you can do with 7.5 inch diff
Plenty of Supra units failing also, you just dont get to hear about them on a ford forum.
yeah but cosworths aren’t ripping all the teeth off the crown wheel and pinion that’s all that counts. A few have busted the mounts but that’s engineering
no, (certainly not that style) MT had his own ones done or made his own, I am not sure. Mk made one type and MT made the other. The nice blue one in the pic is an MT. I am not sure that either are still available.
Hi lads things have change a bit since I did this post .wot happened was I did a track day at kendrel barracks and I smashed the front diff witch is a 3.9 Ford diff the second one I've broke now . Well Sunday morning I got wind of as 3.7 Supra diff so I have bort it and it's on it's way to me . As this will let me put a 3.7 in the front witch I have 3 of them on the shelf . So it might just be the diff I might be getting rid of . No fitting kit just the diff .
As to the rear covers MK made his own covers witch looks like a tertel shell . And MT made the blue one as I've had 3. MT covers over the years I've still got 2 and I've had a MK cover all so witch I sold .there both very well made but the MT covers ticks all the boxes for me .
I don't think I've are available any more as they cost to much time and Ł to make them
There was a bloke on here re-making the castings for the R&D big front diff, whatever happened to him?
I think I will end up with an R n D when I break the crown wheel / pinion on my Quaife. I used the strengthening plate and the 2 supports which bolt to the block but I believe the CWP will be the first thing to go.
Me? I’m called Andrew I built my own qripper diff. Mine has a hewland engineering shot peened and super finished cwp it’s on my garage floor lol. Took it out and went supra as it’s a waste breaking it

aww so you never actually broke the uprated cwp? Bloody gutted I would of bought it off you as I’ve just rebuilt my diff. Would of been interesting to see the tooth pattern contact between the crown wheel and pinion on yours as there’s a few steps to setting them up and if it’s not 100% then will be too much stress on the teeth.

Any pics of how you modified the beam too take the diff? Do you do them for other people? Need too get mine done.
Similar job on my cradle
Obviously this one uses the mounting kit whereas mine will not as mine has the cover on it (note the quick release option to pull the diff out the back very easily)
this is lightweight T45 so saves a big chunk of weight over a 6 degree beam with a lot more adjustment. YES it is more expensive and you really need a cage to locate it in the shell but if you compare the whole 6 degree converted etc...it is probably only twice as much...maybe a little more.

I have only ever heard of a Supra diff breaking where one of the covers was not used and the diff was converted to run a cossie, it was also on a drag strip. I believe that up to 1000 bhp has been put through the Supra diff. There is a member on here who used to have a very high powered Supra and he spanked it a lot. MT has a customer with 1000 bhp drag car running his Supra diff kit.
No doubt some people can break them but they would probably break anything and there will always be the odd faliure with some units but I know for sure that less Supra diffs break at 500 bhp than standard cossie ones.
If we look at this thread Ian has busted 2 front diffs using slicks on track but the Supra diff is intact still.
This is the problem with the standard diff the cwp if you have torque and grip. And this wasn’t driving like a twat I was on the move floored it in second and it gripped and went bang coming off a roundabout
I remember Tibbs with his 3 door @ aroumd 550 bhp used to run a mustang 8.5 rear diff and cained the mothering fucks out of it and never had a issue . There are plenty of reasonable cheap diffs to use stop being sheep lol

Defiantly I bet there’s a few options if your prepared to put the work in. Supra was just an easy option as it was cheap 2 years ago lol and the leg work had been done so you had a kit.
In the grand scheme of things it aint that hard to mock up and the hardest bit is working out the angles of the shafts and having enough plunge and we all need some plunge lol
