So just over a year later back at Kendrew Barracks the same Vauxhall Astra VXR did 195mph, there was a tail wind helping with all the timed cars.
Engine was basically the same specification although has had a new block after the last one cracked and has been fitted with surface discharge plugs with individual coils.
Second Vauxhall Astra did 189mph similar core engine specification but using standard remapped management (bad idea managment warning lights cam on several times and needed resetting)

That's bonkers. Mad to see front drive cars going so quick and the power the Vauxhall boys are getting from those Z-LET engines.

That Astra is around 660hp at present I believe, with all the mk2 focus’s about running between that kinda power and upto 800hp surely they should be capable of around the 200mph mark if running the correct transmission?

Shame we don't see any....

Exactly mate, just seems the ‘in’ thing to do these days is mod one to 800hp then just sit it on show stands and not actually use it, I just don’t get it

I don't know what distance this was over....but I'd say 660 is being a little conservative.

The distance was over a mile at Kendrew Barracks.

In one one of his latest posts he says the car is 700hp.
That sounds about right for the speed.

Rod managed 206 with around 750hp so I can’t see any reason to doubt a lighter, newer car with 660-700hp could do 195 easily....

The organiser of the event was talking about inviting owners of other car makes to the event, so there may be an opportunity for some of the big power Jap and Ford to prove their top speed.

I know Lee at Devil Developments has been trying to encourage his customers to test them. I don't think a lot of them are interested, as mentioned above.

A couple of his big power Mk3 Focus RS customers have been doing some impressive tested times I know.

Lee's own Focus RS (around 600bhp) is one of the fastest FWD manual gearbox cars for timed 100-200kph, which is a big thing at the minute. Did a low 6 I think.

Might be 700 atw so probably over 800 atf which would be more realistic, still a great achievement in a mile

Hes definitely talented with turning them by the looks of it tell him to do a mark shead and drive for them are boost by gear? For traction be interesting to know when these cars are at full power 5th 6th? Surely tyre smokers upto those gears with 800-1000

I don’t think they odd looking....

Solid lines are on x85 race fuel, dotted lines are v-power

very laggy, peaky torque, drops off a cliff at 7500

They are very odd if it is an actual dyno graph, unless it's a strange dyno that cant load the engine properly or something.

The video of the car itself doesnt seem to exhibit the same traits.

It will be because it's not properly loaded up on the dyno.

I've run 197.7 at Kendrew in my 997 turbo, which runs 620-640bhp. The stock turbine housings are very restrictive, and i also run a standard exhaust which means power drops off steeply at 6600rpm, and the 197.7 was at 6700.

I don’t think graphs no where near tell the whole story of how a car performs tbh.
My old saff the graph was nothing special but apart from being a bit laggy the car was mental.

This graph is from a rolling road.
I don’t know which one.
I always said the 9180’s are laggy, I know it’s not just down to the turbo but they are by no means quick spooling

The Porsche's are very efficient at making speed though. Even the old Yellowbird RUF was capable of silly speeds for its very moderate power level. I think it was only claimed mid-high 400's, but was around a 200mph car ( not sure what distance, but dont think it was anything crazy )
Which was incredible really.

Matt's Astra is up for sale as he wants to relocate to OZ, £17,000 for a 200+mph car.

Thanks

I find all the graphs for efr 9180 cars only running around the 700hp mark look like that tbh
