Default Ford S-max Radio Turning it's self off and on

Does anyone have any idea's why the radio in our 2008 S-max turns it's self of and on again and we lose the convers+ display

It's will sometimes stay on when you lock the car and when you do turn it on with the car running it will sometimes say 1 hour

It's a sony DAB single CD radio

I have so far replaced the head unit for another second hand one but still have same problem

Cheers Brian

I was thinking a wire will have the radio out again and have a check

we have similar problems and have swooped the head unit over and it’s still doing this.

Dojj how did you find out the can bus live feed from the aircon switch was the problem how was this diagnosed? Who did the repair?

would like to try similar this car is a 2010 model.

We are having the exact same problem. Did you ever get to the bottom of it?

I see you didn’t get an answer yet but did you ever find the cause yourself. Having same problem and driving me nuts. I’ve pulled fuses, disconnected battery for 30 mins, changed the battery. Stereo has never been out so can’t see it being a loose wire.

Yes it turned out to be the instrument cluster that was causing it. In the end I found 1 bad pin on the main IC chip that was causing it. It was kind of a miracle that I found it really. That or sheer patience and determination. 😂
I think my advice to most people would be to replace the clocks with one from the same vehicle i.e. same engine etc as they are not coded.
Here is my Facebook post on this. The pictures of the actual fault and my repair is in the comments...

It's removed my link for some reason. If you look on Facebook S-Max Owners Club and search for my name Guy J Russell it should come up. There is a video from where I'd taken the clocks to bis and plugged them in. When I touch the circuit board the radio turns on and the heater controls work. When I let go it stopped and everything resets to default. It's easy enough to try a different set of clocks and see if it resolves the problem. They aren't expensive it's just finding the correct matching set and ones with similar milage.

Best regards,
Guy.

The link is still in the email notification that this forum sent me yesterday so all good. Was able to look at this. The really weird thing in my case is this happened years ago too (4+ maybe more) with same car, I took it to the Ford garage and it was a battery issue they told me. Problem free till about October 2022 and has got progressively worse since. Car is now 12 years old so beginning to question if it’s worth fixing at this point. I’m in Ireland but it’s a UK import so most dashes here will be Euro spec and not UK.
