Default Basic Pinto info...

Apologies if this is in the wrong place (I did have a search but thought it easier to post a new thread..!)

I'm about to recondition a 1.6 Pinto. This, with Type 3 gearbox, will be going into a kit car i'm building. It's only getting a very basic tidy up, the only real change I will make is to fit a different sump.

I see that the 2ltr/205 Pintos are by far the most popular. Is there anything different about a 1.6 I need to be aware of? Or are all Pinto blocks the same on the outside, just bored and stroked differently?

There are a lot of Pinto codes but for the size and power level you will want I think any will do.

What Kit Car and get some pics up. Welcome to the forum.

Personally I would either buy a crate duratec engine (they are under Ł1k) or use a whole modern engine in it.

look up locostbuilders forum, it's by far the best kit car builders forum out there and there's a collective wealth of knowledge on there.

i've got a 2.1 pinto and type 9 in my mk indy, it's alright, still weighs next to nothing and is good fun on the twistys but if i was building again now i'd ditch the pinto and go for a duratec.

Deck height bore and stroke are the main differences.

I would not bother with a 1600 pinto.

A zetec if your on a budget would be the only option.

Thanks guys
Kit is a 'Haynes Roadster' which is bascially a Lotus 7 type, based on Ford Sierra donor car. There's a good few pics and things on my blog here: https://meandthekitcar.wordpress.com/
For the initial build I want to do it on carbs and minimal electrics/electronics, and i've got the engine and gearbox ready to go after a basic reccommissioning. But it's good to know crate Duratec engines are so affordable!

Got any links for a new Duratec ?

I’ve got a 1.8 pinto in my new project for the time being and can’t wait to get rid of it.
